(I am not claiming that all men are immature. Neither do I say that not geing ready to settle down is being immature, it's just that guys often act immature about it. I'll reveal a secret; I am childish, but being childish is sometimes awesome. at least when it is positive. Not hurting anyone or doing too stupid/illegal stuff.)

One more thing! I see that I made the point about settling down a little unclear. I think it is ok to not be ready to settle down! It is normal at a young age. Some never wants that. But to lie about it and even to try to pretend you are ready for something serious isn't mature. Some do really stupid shit in their relationships.

Sure, it's quite common - but it's also by choice, and there are legit reasons for so many guys making that choice.

When guys are teens, they want fun and freedom. They're also entering their sexual peak years, and their instincts are telling them to bang every female in sight. Most guys at this age have limited opportunities to do these things, though, because they live at home and are subject to their parents rules and restrictions.

Then they hit "college age" and become legal adults, and usually the restrictions relax. That's especially true of people who go away to college and don't have their parents/family/friends-of-the-family around restrict what they do. These are prime-time "fun years" and many guys take full advantage - and part of the reason why is because they know how the next years of their lives are likely to go.

Once graduating college, most guys have to start their careers, and most have to start at the bottom rung and work their way up. That means long days, weird hours, traveling, and often doing the dirty, boring, stressful, or physical jobs that no one else wants to do. Many guys aren't going to have much time or energy left over to devote to a relationship and they know it, so they prefer to keep things casual, where the expectations are more in line with what they have to offer.

After 5 or 6 years (right around age 30), they'll usually have achieved some measure of success in their career, have achieved some financial stability, and are able to work more normal hours. Finally, they are at the stage where they can have a serious relationship without the other parts of their lives being a constant strain.

Obviously, guys still want sex through those periods, and will take it if they can get it, but it shouldn't be a surprise, given how our society works, that they spend a long time in "party mode" - it just doesn't make good sense for most guys to have a serious relationship before their late 20's/early 30s.

To settle down for me doesn't mean you are gonna stay together, but it means you want to do that. I think if you want to start a relationship, you usually think it is gonna last. If not, then you are probably fooling the other party, and then it is not very mature either. You will never know when it works out. I see you think to settle down means marriage? That doesn't make them immature. You shouldn't just settle down with the first person you have a relationship with. If it's your first relationship how do you know if you are just enjoying being in a relationship or if they are actually the one you should spend the rest of your life with? I think it's stupid to start a relationship planning to be together forever. You start a relationship and see how things go, if you end up staying together forever then ok great but if you don't then it wasn't meant to be.

Too many people want so much to settle down that they just want to settle down with the first person they have a relationship with and end up in bad marriages, especially girls who are afraid they will lose their good looks and won't be able to get a man and will end up alone
