A guy wrote me a love letter?

basically two nights ago i was talking with a friend of mine from school and he told me he found a love letter he wrote me from sophomore year of high school (we are now juniors in high school). the thing is he won't let me read it and he has a girlfriend.
So basically my question is why would he even tell me about it if he isn't going to let me read it and if he's in a relationship?

I'm sorry he's stupid. I would be too. He thought it was newsworthy that he found an old letter he never sent out but obviously doesn't want you to know what it says. Oh well, tease him now and tease him if he breaks up with current girlfriend down the line. Obviously he used to have a crush on you but now he's stuck for better or worse. He probably doesn't want to break up with girlfriend if all is still good there, even if you're open to a relationship.

He probably wants to keep you around as a backup option in case his girlfriend breaks up with him. Or he simply happened to mention that randomly.
