Only way to know would be make a different account, message him and see if you're getting the same messages and responses. I knew a couple guys who did copy/paste dating online.
No shit they had different word files for intro, follow-up message, then inviting out to date with "name here". I don't think they had any malicious intent, it's simply the numbers for rejection and being ignored while dating online are so staggering, everyone has to have some way of dealing with that, or simply stop dating online.
Send out a couple hundred, even if you aren't using copy/paste, your approach will get formulaic. Have you noticed that yours has been drifting that way as you experience being approached online more and more? The questions or criteria you may have that become a habit for filtering out that is, as men usually approach, and women usually choose.
It's hard to say just based on that. He might be actually awkward and not know how to flirt and he's trying to let you know he likes you but isn't sure if you're getting the message if he keeps trying?
