Why he unfriended me?

We’ve been in a situationship for almost 3 years.. and we were last together almost a month ago. He only wants to hang out with me in his time but when I ask he goes quiet. Anyway for the past month we haven’t really communicated apart from him checking up on me. I’d been really busy with other friends. Saturday he ask what I was doing and I told him I was with friends, he asked when I’d be home and I told him I was going home and he just didn’t respond. Monday he sent a message checking in on me but I didn’t see the message till the following weekend on a Sunday. I had however been active on social media and I noticed he had been watching till Thursday… The Sunday I noticed his message I responded and turns out he had unfriended me. I went to a different form of social media turns out he hadn’t blocked me there and I asked what the issue was and his response was he decided to move on and that he had a girlfriend. And I’m thinking in the space of 2 days you all of a sudden have a girlfriend and you’re unfriending me. Why not just unfriend me on all socials. I’m confused
