Same can go the other way around, especially these days.
Because due to human biology, women are, by design, weaker than men. This is an immutable fact. And so femininity has become synonymous with weakness.
Boys/men not acting like men. Whining, wiping out on things. Hiding behind things to protect them or their actions. Grow up, get a pairs, pair, acting like a wuss.
@Subarugirl Because qualities deemed feminine is used by jerks to insult other people.
If I told you to stop being a manly, hairy, testosterone oozing, big D lookin ass dude; how would you take it?
It's natural for men to talk shit to other men cuz we are hairy, testosterone oozing, big D milf loving men; not delicate vaginas.
İ mean women are giving birth but still acting like females are a bit weak but one kick in the e*GG's they are on the ground
Some are bad but I guess it is just a language culture context.
sounds like sexism to me
It could be sexism or it is just in English language and not there in other languages?
Though I admit some of those are in my own language as well
Why do people say don’t be a d
there's plenty of male negative whatever too
Also don’t be a pussy also comes from the cat connotation which means don’t be scared like a cat
More are positives though
"be a man"
"grow a pair"
"boys will be boys"
"man up"
"take it like a man"
How’s that positive
If a woman says man up that means she thinks he should be tougher and not weak
Ya, none of those are necessarily positive. They're basically an invalidation of a guy's feelings.
It means that acting like a man is a good thing, that “man” a higher standard that one should be held to
It actually means that a guy can't be insecure or fearful of something because then he's "not a man". So instead of encouraging a guy to be strong, it actually discourages a guy from disclosing how he feels.
@JSmuve which is negative
Therefore proving her wrong
Grow a pair is even worse
That’s saying a guy doesn’t have any like come on
@Subarugirl do u not have anything to add?
Society has made it so and it continues to be reinforced.
I used to wonder that myself. Then one day I watched an WNBA game and when a girl was knocked to the floor on a foul she started crying. And there it was. Lol
One girl did that and solidified everything for you? I’ve seen men cry in sports too.
@dustybiker lmao you want more examples? Or are you angry that it's true? I'm not saying all women are weak. I know some that are tough as nails but on the avg. Women are weaker. Mainly because it's just their gender role. They're allowed to.
It was a simple point (I stand by). No need to get all hot and bothered.
@dustybiker men cry when they give it their all and either win or lose. That’s a completely story. I cried (privately) after I lost a fierce competition on cable TV years ago. It was mental disappointment of working so hard and coming up short. That has nothing to do with being feminine or masculine.
However it’s very rare to see men cry over physical pain unless the pain is absolutely excruciating.
Because it’s implying a lack of manhood on the one being insulted.
Same reason people say "that's gay" in a deragatory sense.
Only immature people use insults like that, "Sissy" dosen't pack as much as a punch as some other words that'll deliver a bigger strike.
Same reason why qualities deemed masculine are used in way worst negative contests.
Feel free to provide an example other than being called a dick
lol!
[woman behaves like a violent criminal] "If she wants to act like a man, she's gonna get treated like a man"
Do you get one comes with moral valence and the other doesn't?
Violent offenders aren't prosecuted differently because of their gender, the main question is why you think that men and women should be treated differently.
Actually they are, we aren't talking about prosecution here, just self defense.
Lol no offense but I doubt you would defend yourself differently if your life was in jeopardy based off of weather your attacker looked like a man or a woman… I sure wouldn’t
I and basically every other man has.
It was drilled in me even that I couldn't use too much force to get away from my sister 2 years older than me and the queen of the school bullies.
Because men are stronger than women it’s only insulting for a man
it's insulting to women to..
How is it insulting to be compared to something that’s stronger than you if you say to a guy “you’re as strong as an ox” that’s a compliment for the guy but for an ox it’s an insult because it’s way stronger than a guy
It implies that femininity is inferior or masculinity... im pretty sure that you would feel insulted if it was reversed
What you’re doing right now “acting like a girl” over something that’s not that big of a deal only further proves my point if you were a guy and you got overly emotional whiney and offended easily you would most definitely be considered a bitch
and why do you think that is an insult... no offence but you aren't superior because you have a penis
You women want to be men so bad it’s pathetic and I’m not speaking about just you all women in general you have this deeply rooted inferiority complex and deep down you honestly feel like men are superior to women let me ask you something what are women better at than men?
That last one I can understand being bullshit, but the first I’m pretty sure came from a bigger word. Like how cat comes from Cactus Poomer.
It comes from a time not to long ago when the world seemed to be ruled and ran by upper class white entitled arrogant chauvinist and there was a major gap in equality wether it was race or gender.
Old world sexist ideals of men seeing women as weak and frail
Because on average a female is physically weaker than a male.
Its only negative for a man. Probably because a man is not a girl.
The examples you gave reminded me of the dumasses we were 2 decades ago when we were immature teens.
I tell my wife sometimes that she needs to grow a pair. Meaning to stand up for herself.
It goes both ways: "stop being a dick" for example.
yes having balls is a compliment
It means that every gender has it's degrading examples.
... because those qualities are seen as negative?
If the question was "Why are certain qualities seen as negative deemed to be feminine?" now that's a better discussion
I would assume it is because women are seen as lesser than
Because both men and women want guys to act like men. Thus, such sayings.
Because men are insecure ASF and suck. Everyone knows balls are weaker than vaginas🤗
Yeah, while rest of the female body is weaker than male. 😗
More often than not when people like to refer to others as weak they call them names associated with the vagina. Which is why I said balls are weaker than vaginas because it's true and that's the part of the body most often referenced with weakness. @cookiecrusher but uh.. ok
Well, it takes balls to approach women with vaginas. So it's all messed up word games at this point😅.
Anyway, i was more reacting to the first part.
Probably should have touched on the part you were reacting to then?
No thanks, i wouldn't want to touch other guys balls🤔
Ohhhh you're a troll!!! Okay, this all makes sense now. Have the day you deserve bye now:)
No, I'm not that ugly.
I just found that reply a bit comical. You were pretty openly bashing guys, so my initial reply was on that, about women, in your own oppinion context.
MISOGYNY! Its rooted deep I tell ya.
I think that is terrible and is a reflection on the mindset of people who use it.
Do you not realize how pathetic you appear by asking this question and responding to everyone the way you have here? Women like you only undermine respect for women with this kind of silliness. You are hurting your gender, not helping it.
feel free to elaborate... it's a valid question and interesting that describing masculine traits as a compliment and feminine traits as an insult.
Sure, it's a valid question for a 7 year old girl to ask.
Feminine traits are insults to men but praise to women, just like masculine traits are insults to women but praise to men.
Get over your insecurities and be a big girl.
Honey I am not insecure, but telling a woman she has masculine traits like being tall, strong, and athletic are compliments. If someone says you have balls, that’s a compliment.
Wait, who said being athletic is a masculine trait? That's pretty sexist of you, don't you think?
Being tall or strong are simply physical characteristics, so that's a fail.
You are very insecure, and it comes through in most of what you most on GAG. Sad you don't recognize that.
If I were insecure I would interact here anonymously so that I wouldn't be held accountable... But hey if you think you are a mind reader go ahead.. tell me more about myself since you have such an intimate understating of the innerworkings of my mind.
Yeah, I could tell you a lot about yourself based on things you've written here but apparently forgotten. Lmao.
Yeah you definitely seem like the type to believe everything you read online...
From you? No. But whether you meant it or not, you've made your insecurities very apparent on multiple occasions.
Hahah well then you are reading into something that isn't there, which also know as a delusion because I am not insecure. It's sweet you think so though. Though now am amused.. what do you think that I am insecure about? Share with the class.
If only GAG had a viable search function, lol. Since you've made your profile private I can't show you but going by memory you are insecure about your body, your sex life and relationship with your husband, your job, your gender identity, for starters.
Well GaG does have a search function, and I hate to break it to you but no… asking questions are not synonymous with insecurity.
GAG's search function is 100% worthless. And I'm sorry to break it to you but your words do paint a picture of your mental health.
Possibly, but interacting anonymously is a bigger indicator of insecurity
Why is it that GAG users who run out of arguments always end up whining about anon users? Nothing else left to offer, I guess.
Doesn't make it any less true...
There is literally zero correlation between insecurity and anonymity on GAG, but feel free to continue deluding yourself about it.
In a published study, a researcher outlines a significant correlation between anonymity and civility.
At play is the so-called "online disinhibition effect," which predicts that when people's identity is hidden, their actions or words have no consequences, thus their inhibitions drop. Online, under the cloak of anonymity, people are more likely to behave in ways that they ordinarily would not if their
identity was intact.
www.sciencedaily.com/.../140122134310.htm
Insecurity is defined as the state of being open to danger or threat; lack of protection. According to that definition it stands to reason that when interacting anonymously online that one is doing so to protect ones self from the danger/threat and lack of protection that would not be present if that identify was present.
People use the protection of anonymity to reduce and avoid the social risks of discussing unpopular opinions and taboo topics, and to create different personas online than they exhibit offline. It's a way of avoiding and protecting one's self against responsibility and accountability for their actions.
So yeah... anonymity is a great indicator of insecurity.
Your leap from what you wrote before the link to what you wrote afterward is hilarious. The article is valid in its conclusions, which have nothing to do with your silly claim about insecurity. Protecting one's self from threats is correlated with intelligence, not insecurity. Nice try though. Care to try again, insecure girl?
And what evidence do you have apart from your opinion that I am insecure? None? Then you have no grounds for that accusation.
Over the last year you have written countless things that clearly show you are insecure. Your question here is just one example of how insecure you are just being a woman. You and I both know that, even though your ego won't allow you to admit it. But I'm okay with that because I know you know I know, and that's all that matters to me. You're not fooling anyone here, least of all me.
I'm done here. Buh bye.
Then site your sources and prove it. I haven’t even had this account for a year 😂 the only person fooled here is you if you believe that
Note they're usually used negativity towards men.
Why, when telling someone they have balls is a good thing but talking someone they are a pussy is bad..
It's only viewed badly mainly against a man because it implies weakness and femininity against the male. As for balls, it's probably just a stereotype leftover from before feminism. If you called a female a pussy, it would have almost no effect, it's meant to shame men for something deemed unappealing by women, namely feminine traits.
So masculine qualities are good and strong, feminine is bad and weak...
Basically yes. It's the way it's been forever.
Same as for guys, "Don't be a dick."
that's just one idiom, you have more that are positive.
"be a man"
"grow a pair"
"boys will be boys"
"man up"
Your list of "positive" ones are just to allow men to suffer and people not care about them. Those are all what people say when something bad happens to men and it is a way for them to show that they don't care what happens to them.
Every single one you mentioned with the exception of "boys will be boys" are all actually negative things to say to a guy.
Not surprised that you didn't realize that though since most women in society don't care at all about men when they suffer.
they are used to glorify masculine traits and put down feminine traits, its kind of shitty
"I guess someone's on their period"
Because girls are inferior lol?
Transgenderism is a mental illness.
And sexism is wrong
Gender dsyphoria is a real thing but it’s extremely rare. The real disease is social contagian. People thinking they are trans when they are suffering from some other unrelated problem.
Nature is sexist, nature created 2 sexes. It's not wrong
@globetrotter22 Media plays a big role in the problem. Along with schools. The LGBTQ agenda pushes gender Dysphoria on society and children. Saying it's okay for boys to be in the girls bathroom. Trying to make them question their sex. Confusing and blurring the lines between the sexes.
And people are getting fuck fed up with it. It’s disgusting and it’s time to draw the line.
you're a girl, don't you know?
yeah I know why, I want to know why other people think so
I think women are awesome, much better than men in general, I purely Love the way they think, even though it baffles me sometimes...
PLEASE... act like a girl, be a pussy, fight like a girl, I appreciate the differences..
play with it in front of him and ask him to stay
Because women don't speak out against it.
... we call people dicks also
Don't get your knickers in a twist
Sexism
crying
Waste of time
Cuz of stupidity
Nonsense
Is it though?
Cuz women suck
Pmsing again?
thank you for demonstrating another example
