I never win things but I enjoy it because the game itself was fun. Winning is just the icing not the cake.
Why are guys so competitive?

Trending & News For me, a competition was never a hostile thing. That seems to be a conflict I have with many women, and even some men. They see competition as a hostile thing.
It is a bonding thing for me. So when I was a boy I competed with all my friends. Fastest runner, strongest arm-wrestler, fastest tree climber, best hi-score on Pac-Man, best chess player, you name it. If you could compete over it, we'd compete over it.
But we competed with love in ways non-competitive types don't seem to understand, not hate. This is how we figured out each other's strengths, personalities, how we came to appreciate each other. We find our place in the world and within our group by competing.
You can't really discover where you stand against each other through what people call "cooperation", although in my mind competition is a subset of cooperatoin. The key to making it healthy though is good sportsmanship. My friends and I never fought when someone won.
We just had respect. We were high-fiving each other, not hating each other. And there was always someone in our group who was the best at something. We exhausted so many possibilities that every single person in our group turned out to be the best at least one thing. This is how we came to love each other.
Non-competitive types in my mind are so focused on words over actions and performance. They seem to think someone who describes themselves as funny is actually funny. I see it as about being the best at making other people laugh.
We compete to discover our place in the world and who we are and who each other are. You can't really learn that much about each other without competing as I see it. It's a massive information gap if we can't compete against each other. I want to know who you really are, so let's compete. Show me your soul and I'll show you mine as we try our best to beat each other.
Even if you lose to me, I see your "spirit" in ways that I might not learn even with a thousand conversations. And even if I lose to you, I will show you mine in the same way. There is a beauty in this sort of healthy competition as I see it, or maybe I'm just wired a certain way. But if I want to share who I really am, and I want to know who you truly are, then I think a healthy competition is one of the best ways to learn about each other.
I do agree with you that this should all be in the name of fun. I think I've always had that in common competing with friends. But this is also in the name of discovering who we truly are beyond our pleasant conversations. This is the path to discovery about each other as I see it, including self-discovery. As someone hungry to know people, and myself, I cannot see a way to learn nearly as much as I would want to learn in any reasonable period of time without competition.
(what's your chess rating : ) )
@sensible27 I never became all that good or interested in chess or played at a level where we get rated. Actually, my brother-in-law is into it and wants to play and I've forgotten even how castling works on both sides! :-D
It's because most of us (and there ARE definitely exceptions) aren't given much of anything - we're expected to earn it all. And that means competition.
As much as boys were considered important because they carried the family name, the reality is that men have always been considered to be expendable. Men have always been the ones sent to war, sent into the mines, sent out into the fields to plow, to climb the ropes of a ship, to fell the trees, to build the buildings, roads, bridges, and railroads, and to keep the peace. Dangerous, often back-breaking work.
Men come into the world with very little inherent value, and they have to earn whatever value they eventually come to have. Money, status, relationships, skills - it all comes from competition, and we start competing as children, and we don't stop until, at best, we retire - often not even then.

Women automatically have value as soon as they hit puberty. A functioning womb is irreplaceable, and fertility has been of high value since the beginning of human civilization. For most women, the need for competition is pretty limited and relatively casual - at least, that was the case until 3rd Wave Feminism, when women elected to get into the competition with men and abandon traditional femininity.
Damit you took my answer, well said. Women dont really understand that because so much is just given to them.
I believe it has to do with testosterone. Or maybe it’s instinctive. Humans are natural hunters.
There was a study done of salivary testosterone and cortisol interrelationships. It was found that high testosterone levels and lower cortisol levels are associated with higher levels of anger.
Testosterone is released during activities such as sports, because instinctively our body’s are in fight or flight. We need the extra boost of testosterone/adrenaline to handle the situation we’re being put in.
That’s a possible scientific reasoning, however, I’m a female and I find I’m just as competitive (very toxic trait of mine). Maybe it’s because I was raised around a lot of men though. Either way, I blame it on biology!
Iam not a guy but i aim to win every fucking single time so some people know am not just a women who will give up to easy and that am just as tough as they are am a good challenge to win iam confident about that bring ure challengecon i mite look like am to chubby to win but undermeath those chubs is a strong girl very string that will aim to win nd not give up

To compete is to struggle. To struggle is to grow. To grow is to live. To live is to struggle. Life is a competition as to who wins the struggle. Your in competition with your coworkers for the better position, with other women for the better man, with nature to survive.
Did you actually wanna know or are you just here to roll in the pig shit with differing opinions? Why does everything have to always be easy? What’s wrong with struggle. I understand why you change happiness but what’s wrong with dealing with difficulty?
I hate how weak people have become… The natural way of life is people starve, die in the heat and cold, get killed and eaten by animals. That’s the natural state of life. Technology has ruined us. One nuke. When all automation and technology is knocked out will you turn to women or men? Men are the backbone of society and women keep it going… tired of this hating on men for stupid shit like competitiveness.
I would like to think we’ve evolved past such primitive instincts and reasoning.
@StormMistress and at one point people thought the world was flat. I’ve seen too many women refusing to date short men to think we’ve evolved beyond natural instincts. I’ve see the lemming mentality of a riot and know we still haven’t even evolved beyond being animals under the right circumstances…
Sorry if this seems rude but as an optimistic and beautiful woman I think you’ve seen a different side of society then I have.
Competition promotes productivity. The problem is where you out that energy to compete. Sports, education, music, science, etc are all great things to be competitive in and it’s extremely rewarding. I don’t know not one school or job that DOESN’T want you to be competitive. The problem comes when people are competitive in useless activities that don’t produce anything except some small satisfaction to the individual. Women compete with each other as well. Maybe men more-so because it’s in our nature. Competition is mostly a good thing.
Because we define ourselves by what we achieve and hence winning means you achieved something it´s what we aim for.
The guy that wins most times is also in other areas the most successful guy.
But are women really different? I feel women are also competitive and oftentimes rivals when it comes to guys? Also why is it such a big problem if you compare a woman with her mother if women aren´t competitive in some parts?
Well, just wanting to have fun doesn't get you Michael Jordon, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Tom Brady, Tiger Woods... etc. because if having fun is all you care about each of these guys would have just stopped working hard and going the extra mile to be the best.
They may have been nice players but not the jaw dropping, unstoppable, super humans they are.
Testosterone and 10000 years of male programming. The winners lived. And their offspring were fed. The losers died or were enslaved.
In a world of seemingly infinite resources we don’t see that.
Guys are childish you know. They live and see the life as a game. So, they do ridiculuous things sometimes they even risk their life. It is so hard to tame those sometimes. They must be mature.
I think girls never grow. They are moody and emotional. Their lives and love for others depend on their emotional state which is going up and down all the time. So there is always conflict.
Competition is a very old basic instinct. Just get a look at the animal world: the most fit and competitive male will mate. Sports and plays for instance are a nice way to channel that primal instinct.
Men have that *extra* drive, biologically. You know what I'm talking about. (Testosterone) It's like a boost that helps drive them to go that extra mile.
@Asad1ONE1
I am wrong? That's fine. I don't mind being corrected.
Would you like to share your reasoning?
... Could you at least give me a brief summary and so that I'll know where to start?
Men and women BOTH are competitive. Men generally openly compete. Women on the other hand compete much more subtly.
Well you’re not wrong lol
It's inherent. This is not a human phenomenon, it is a male phenomenon. It can be seen between males of most species. Games are just today's medium where it expresses itself since any one can go to the grocery store and provide food.
Everyone has a fight or flight mechanism. Testosterone emphasizes the fight mechanism in guys, which means they usually want to win!
I don't understand it either. When I play a computer game, I don't care about "winning"; I just want to stay in the game and keep playing, not achieve some pointless objective.
Men get it out of their system and then they are good.
I must not be a man then. The only thing I'm competetive at is Mario Kart... and that's only because I can still whoop most of my friends drunk off my ass.
You must have flunked biology if you don't understand testosterone.
Testosterone. Testosterone makes a person more competitive and likely to risk. Men usually have more testosterone than women. That's why.
Because they want to win, and winning is enjoyable while losing is uncomfortable. Winning increase their self esteem, removes insecurities and women love them automatically.
How could a woman ever articulate the feelings or behaviours of what they' not? Yet , your compititions with each other far more out weigh the others in retrospect. Interseting anomaly...
Guys are competitive mainly because it has to do with mating. Look at what male lions do to get more insight into it. It might help you understand more
That's just innate to our instincts. You see it in animals as well, there's almost always a leader/alpha. So the real answer is.. because evolution molded us this way for the best odds of survival.
Try getting on the testosterone levels that guys are naturally on and you'll see.
People desire to win. You are very competitive too if it's something you truly desire otherwise it's just having "fine".
Testosterone is a fun hormone. Not the only reason but it fuels some of it.
Studies show that testosterone increases competitiveness.
It's an instinct which develops attractive qualities, they accumulate resources, which is attractive to women.
Is only natural. Why do women suck at driving? Why do they nag us to death?
Because its in our nature. Its how we get anything basically.
because 2nd place is the first looser. nobody lost ahead of him.
We are like that because we have to compete to make money to survive.
It’s just how people are and women are very competitive too in it in other areas
Martial arts lead to a lot of competitiveness. I just sent you a DM by the way
Guys are competitive in game
Girls are competitive for male attention.
it’s our nature just like how women crave attention all the time
Aren’t you competitive with your girlfriends on how much better you suck a guys dick?
Because you have to fight to be respected. And in nature you have to fight to survive.
Men’s brain is one direction or the other. They don’t know how to round it
I'm not sure they are, as in specifically.
(could be)
Naturally programmed to :D
Men are built different. 😂
I don’t know but it’s sexy tehe
Not one gender both gender can be compettive.
Because winners usually get pussies.
I agree just have fun even if you don't win
Because they ain't got shit else to do🤣
That’s the way athletes are structured
So are women just in different ways.
Same reason why girls are so competitive.
Because guys produce testosterone
That's #3 on the Top Ten Things Losers Say
Because of the toxic masculine culture.
Get back in the kitchen and make me a sandwich you dumb female
Fragile egos
first prize is your wonderful ass
@Sonorous , You need to shut up.
Because
