What do a guy mean when he calls you fascinating?

A classmate keeps calling me "fascinating" for no apparent reason and neither do I know what he means by that or how to respond to it.

I once liked a girl, said "I slightly like you. Do you like me?" Here the except the 'slightly' part, everything was normal.
But it is not as strange as the 'fascinating' word I think.
