Is this guy sad and unhappy?

The guy I am seeing is the only child of his parents. He has no siblings and he isn't very close to his parents either. His parents seem to be separated because they live in different countries (his mum is English and lives in England and father is Italian who lives in Italy). He studied in both countries but his mom enrolled him in a private boarding school in England for 6 years.

When mentioning his family, he said he visits his father in italy and his father asks him about his future studies/work prospects. He didn't mention his mother much. On siblings front, he did ask me how's my relationship with my younger brother and if we get along well.
He also said that the good part of life is that you can choose your friends but sad bit is you can't choose your family.

When I scrolled through his Facebook page likes, I saw he had sperm bank group pages liked there, which are basically abiyt collecting sperm and helping couples who cannot conceive etc.

He acts cool and as if he doesn't care, is uncommunicative about his intentions towards me and closed off. He also has player tendencies.

But is this an indication that he hasn't had an emotionally fulfilling childhood? Hence he has issues? He seems quite depressed and unhappy, drinks and smokes a lot too.
