Why is it he takes days to reply on intimate questions?

So speak to my ex but whenever I ask him intimate questions like “do you wish things were different.” Or “do you miss me?” He always takes days to respond to them, even though if it was anything else he would respond right away. Is he working out what he’s feeling? Or just not wanting to respond to them?

I think he may have trouble accepting things are the way they are
