What does it mean when I guy says “be good” ?

I’m newly talking to this new guy and I told him I was going out with friends and he responded “be good ok” ? What does that phrase mean coming from a guy?

It could mean a lot of things, but you say you're new talking to this guy so like you're feeling out a relationship with him, my first thought if I was in his position to say that would be... Don't do anything outrageous, kind of? Like, if he hears you went out with your friends got piss drunk and made a mess of yourself in public around town he would be embarrassed for you. Or what he was really thinking was probably, if you go out with your girls and then you hook up with a random guy, he's a little afraid of that because then it means like oh you're not really into him at all because you found somebody else.

It could also be that he's just teasing you, like when somebody says don't do anything I wouldn't do. Like hey have fun just don't get fucking arrested.

I say “be good…” but usually end with “I beg of
you… please… PLEASE be good.” “Or… for the love of God, please… PLEASE be good!”


“Be good” in my case (without the joke) is just kind of like… “I wish you well” or “live long and prosper” “have a great day (/week/month), whatever.” I say it to my family, I say it to friends… I have probably said it to past girlfriends, too, so based on the words alone, it’s hard to read much into it last a generic “good luck” or “be well” kind of goodbye.

He's very politely and vaguely saying 'please don't hook up with anyone'.

He doesn't want to outright say that because it looks controlling to a degree and out of proportion to where you are in terms of the progression of a relationship.

But it probably best translates as 'I think there's a chance that it's likely that at some point I'm going to want to progress further with you - so I'd appreciate it if you didn't shag someone tonight.'
