It can be hard to know. Sarcasm is usually based on something that is very obvious, or when someone says the OPPOSITE of something that is obvious.
Here's an example. If I were rolling a 100 pound (45 kg) boulder up a hill, and someone said, "Working hard today?", THAT would be a sarcastic remark. It is OBVIOUS I am working hard, and I am NOT having any fun. I would usually just return the comment with an equally useless answer such as, "This isn't hard: this is playtime for me. Want to join in the fun?" Again, I am responding with the OPPOSITE of what is actually happening.
