Defending yourself is a natural instinct, forget law and what others may say this is factual.
I’ll give you a scenario, Beth is a regular girl, office job, polite and friendly. Beth is on her way home on a dark evening and is walking through a park when a man jumps from a bush, Beth reacts well though frightened for her life. While running she pulls out her rape alarm and the sound forces the man away out of the park.
What do you think Beth would have done if she was in possession of a gun and no alarm? This is the same Beth that wouldn’t hurt a fly.
I understand your scenario and made an attempt at piecing it to my story, but it’s just not a perfect puzzle piece, it’s like you grabbed a piece from another puzzle and slapped it in and called it good.
This may not be an exact match in your view, I guess what I’m saying is did you feel threatened?
Or was this you simply trying to level things for what happened previously?
Also how are you to know that he wouldn’t sucker punch you again.
For me there is no right or wrong, your action is justified whatever you did as you was previously stuck first, my thoughts on this would change if you provoked this person.
I mean... did he punch you for a good reason? If you were about to get a legal lawsuit on your hands and he smacked you once to avert it I'd buy the man a drink instead.
If he did it unprovoked and for no reason? Of course you can create trouble for him. I'd have probably dunkes his head through the nearest furniture myself. And I'm a pretty peaceful guy.
No, Id say you were in the right to call him out.
