Why does he this?

Right so there's this guy - not to sound rude but he is quite full of himself and has quite the ego, many people have said this.

He often paints himself out to be something that he is not - maybe this is out of insecurity I'm not sure.

He has a tendency to make fun of things people enjoy and recently I have been at the end of his abuse as his new target - there was a time I missed a class because I wasn't feeling too well, and he goes on a rant about how I'm 'always' missing class and I'm never there - even if this is the case what's his business we are not close and outside of classes I won't really speak to him.

There was another time I was talking to my friends about an issue, and he then makes it about himself and makes me appear shallow (I was discussing how it's hard sometimes to have big feet as a woman, as most cute shoes only go up to UK size 6/7, he then goes on about how its soooo hard for him as guy with big feet, to find shoes and that other people have it harder), whilst I know other people have it harder, it was a mindless vent not to be taken completely seriously.

Like the situation above there will be times im minding my own business and he just has to make a comment on something im saying or doing, its utterly frustrating like dangggg mind ur own buisness.

I've tried to evaluate why he might be doing with, it could be im just sensitive and being a jerk is part of his personality, I dont speak to this guy enough to have offended him so im not sure why he's doing this.

My question is what can I do about this, should I just remove myself from situations when he's there, I hate the way he riles me up and makes me feel angry and annoyed

Does he know you feel angry and annoyed or are you just always smiling to mask your frustration? If so, he thinks he is being funny and gets rewarded by those smiles, that is an invite to continue. Many girls unfortunately communicate positivity exactly when they feel the complete opposite, "hoping" the annoying person will "understand" randomly through opposite signals, but that can't happen of course.
So, first of all, when he is annoying, drop your face, stay serious, stare at him like if he is pathethic or nonsense, just don't express any trace of positivity, even sarcastic one.

If you do this already regularly, if he does that again you might have to tell him something that makes him understand he is not appropriate, invasive, out of place, nonsense, not welcomed, egocentric, doesn't understand boundaries etc. If he enters in a conversation between you and another person, you might try to get the other person's "alliance" by rolling your eyes, doing sarcastic facial expressions, expressing embarassment/confusion, as if his presence is weird and out of place. If you are talking with a girl, girls usually can't wait to find common enemies so they would welcome easily your indirect descriptions of who he is. That could make you feel "protected" and encourages you to remain instead of leaving.

Probably he does that with anyone, shifting targets time to time, as soon as he finds someone soft enough, or that looks welcoming. I think he looks for integration and appreciation but he rolls with the wrong technique and approach. Probably, he will soon realize he doesn't get much success.

you're correct i am one, in hopes to avoid conflict i normally just laugh things off, but from now on i will start visibly expressing my discontent as you said.

when i am with my guy friends some actually come to my defense with his attacks but mostly everyone laughs it off, however when i am with my girl friends they like you said show a lot of visible disgust to his actions.

Yeah, I wouldn’t even engage with him. To me that’s just his own arrogance and entitlement, all mixed in with a deep desire to force his opinion/experiences onto others. I wouldn’t waste my breathe.

Sounds like he likes to bring attention on to him self and like a lot of people talk about him self! He needs to understand that his behaviour is not good socially but its not necessarily up to you to be that person. If i have some one who i dislike i will avoid contact with them and just ignore him, dont give him the attention he wants, silence can be more powerful than any words, some one who craves attention will find that far than a "shut up"
