Perhaps he has an obsessive compulsive affliction, like the people who must turn on & off a light 5 time's every time or they have a panic attack, or buckling & unbuckling their seatbelt 6 times believing that if they don't their mother will die a horrible death & so on... Three times isn't so bad, luckily his focused figure is like 10 or something cause that would be a little difficult to deal within my opinion, but three?
