Why hasn’t he responded to my dm?

I dmed a guy I found on Instagram (we have mutual friends). I followed him but he didn’t follow me back but i dmed him anyway because I can see we share common interests and I used those as a conversation starter when I replied to his story. But it’s been 3 hours and he still hasn’t replied, mind you the message may have gone into his Message Requests and he may not be notified about it.

Guys, how often do you check Message Requests and do you find this off-putting if a girl you don’t know dms you? I’m overthinking this…

Okay, so a couple of things. One is that it has only been three hours. How can you even be sure he has seen the message notification? He could be at work, sleeping, busy with friends, eating, working out, etc, etc. I can go on and on, but I think you get the picture.

People get busy and don't check that sort of thing but once or twice a day. Maybe he doesn't for days. Considering you do not know this guy well, you have no clue if he is very active on social media or just an occasional user. Even if you do know, doesn't mean he isn't busy with life.

The second thing I will mention is something about guys. This is a generalization and not true of all of them. My experience is that guys are just not real big into messaging, whether it is text message or social media. My husband is like this to this day and it is frustrating but I deal with it.

I think you are way overthinking this whole thing and need to give it some time before writing it off as he has ignored you.

Perhaps you are coming off as too pushy and strange. Who is this crazy B-. She must not know that I have a girlfriend…. Who is this etc and he’s got to reach out to shared contacts to find out what is really going on here.

Three hours isn't enough. Also, he may not want to DM with you. He also may have a girlfriend and so he may not DM random girls. But three hours isn't long enough.

Sometimes a person is busy or might miss the message. This has happened to me many times before and 3 hours is too soon. Give it 3 days. If he doesn’t respond within 3 days then you gotta let it go.
