How can I tell if he likes me?

We have a class together at uni. I asked him if he would study with me, via snap, and he agreed.
I don’t talk to him in class, because I am too shy, he already knows that.
He is a very serious guy, and takes studying seriously. Me in the other hand, I was trying to get to know him a little. He didn’t mind telling me about himself, but hardly asked about me. He would go right back into what we were studying. I hardly looked him in the eyes, because I am too shy. Him on the other hand, he looked at me a lot.
He was a bit playful when we we were studying at one point, but still brought us back to focus.

When we were leaving, it turned out we were going to the same building. So, we walked together.

As we were leaving the building we were currently in, he was VERY eager to open the door for me. When we got to our destination, he actually got a bit upset that I didn’t let him open the door, which confused me. So, it laughed it off. I probably should have apologized, but I was actually confused, so I didn’t know how to respond.

So, I am not sure what to think. He doesn’t usually text first, I do, and he takes forever to respond. As if he is waiting a certain amount of time to text back…

He does tend to view my stories fast.

So, what does this all mean? I am having a hard time reading if he likes me or not.

You give a lot of good detail. Still, it is impossible for any of us to know if he does or doesn’t like you. We are all just guessing here. This is a particularly hard one to guess at simply because of the details you provided.

On the one hand, you two text, which I would view as good. If he didn’t have an interest, he wouldn’t bother texting. Him not responding right away isn’t a big deal in my opinion. You state that he is a serious guy and takes his studies seriously. Maybe he is just always busy.

The other hand, he doesn’t seem to be making a move. I think most of this is because the setting you put yourself in when you are around him. If he is serious about studies and you only see him one on one when studying, you are unlikely to make a lot of progress that way.

My suggestion would be to set up a study session like you normally do and then suggest after you are done grabbing a cup of coffee or bite to eat. See what happens outside of the study time. That will give you a much better clue.

He might like you, but since you made the first move already he might always be expecting you to make first moves. And some guys are not a texting kind of persons, they like to move the pieces in real life like spending time with you, giving you hints, etc. Face conversations weigh more than texts for some guys. You can't expect someone to be attached to their phone as you are. They might be more attached to real life. HE OF COURSE MOST POSSIBLY LIKES YOU, SO DON'T WORRY. But give him a chance to pursue you and be more available to him in real life and see where things goes. But don't always be the one to make the first move. Do friendship with him first. Be his study partner first as he loves study. Then he'll gradually see that you're interested in being his type so he'll get the hint and may start making more moves. Right now, he might be in the starting stage of liking you but follow all the tips that I've mentioned and you're good to go

I cannot tell whether he likes you. BUT... I can tell you that you have something great: a man who is willing to spend time with you. You can use that to ask him if, AFTER studying, he might like to get coffee or a meal. He has CLEARLY indicated that he is serious about studying. You should treat your time together like that. But then, when you're done, ask him for some social time. That may well lead to more.

Perhaps. :) And better than nothing. But my recommendation would not be just walking up to him and asking him out. When a study session has finished, merely say "let's get coffee." Three simple words.
