We talk here and there at work, but recently he asked me how my car shopping is going and if I’m going with someone for a car inspection on the weekend and I was curious as to why he wanted to know if I was going with someone or not.
He was also asking me lots of questions about the car that I’m going to be inspecting soon.

Then start talking to him more. That doesn't mean waiting around for him to come talk to you. Right now he thinks you aren't interested and I don't blame him. Take the iniative and start a conversation with him.

Well, I didn’t shut him down. I explained what I was going to do at the inspection and where I was going to go. Now, the next step from here is to update him again on the car inspection.
