Ever heard this response to I love you?

I spent time with my gorgeous boyfriend of three months this morning and when he was just about to head off to work, I mistakenly let the words slip 'I love you babe', after wishing him a good day at work;

Just a bit of background.. He is 27years old and I'm 30, we have been friends through a mutual friend since January but started being boyfriend and girlfriend in May, so, 3months now and this is the first time I've said I love you to him. Any who;

His response was this, he stood there in silence, with wide eyes and said "uhh I wish I could say it back" and then I said "Oh, it's ok, seriously" and he replied "I like you a lot ok, bye" and then he left. I jumped back into bed and a few minutes later he rushed back in and said "I love you baby" and then kissed me and said "have a good day".

I'm questioning my entire lifes existence now 😭

He just, a few minutes before said he couldn't say it back but then a few minutes later, could?

Was the rushing back and saying 'I love you' just to not make me stress or worry, or just out of guilt or did he actually mean it? Ahhh I need someones help.

You ever seen this Levi commercial? (Notice the scared look on the guys face i the commercial after the moment🤣) I think he had a moment like this when you said that. You moved all your chips into the pot so to speak with that comment and he wasn't ready for it. Obviously! He felt something or he wouldn't have thought about it and come back.

The first "I love you" is a big deal and it's hard to land it perfectly. You don't want to drop it too soon. My guess is he was REALLY not expecting it. Give it some time. Be forgiving of him and yourself. This can still be a good relationship if you can navigate this awkwardness.

I think it took him a second to get over the shock - then realize yes he actually loves you too and that’s why he said it.

I think he said it out of guilt, to come back to reciprocate those same words to make you not feel bad. This is why I always feel it’s best for a man to say I love you first or ask her to get married first. Because it seems as men we take a longer time to figure out or feelings. Women tend to know right away, so in situations like yours it’s just awkward.
