in my opinion love runs much deeper than a crush. Love is formed over a connection, a bond with another person. So, we do have a lack of context here if you knew him for a long time, if you bonded, if you actually know him personally etc. But if it dissipated after 8 months I doubt you knew him well enough to be in love with him. So no. I'd say you were only crushing on him.
