Hmm. Receiving an extravagant gift may distract from the moment and may be less memorable than say a day or evening of celebration.

I think something more wholesome, memorable, and sentimental would be to maybe treat him to a favorite restaurant of his to celebrate, take a picture together, and then give that to him with a handwritten letter (or maybe at the back of the picture) talking about how proud you are of him for quitting and how much you cherish this moment.

I think looking at the picture together and reading that letter would make an impact on him and really set things in. It’ll bring back stronger memories and feelings, reminding him of why he decided to quit.

Most guys do what is in their best interest cause like everyone else on earth, they know their ability to live depends on them doing things to protect their own self interest. Like if you don’t eat or drink water, you die. I would not view accepting intelligent advice, to be a sign somebody wants to date you.

If it were me I would be thinking if not for her when? Even if this doesn't work out not too many women like a guy who smokes unless they smoke themselves. So I see nothing wrong with using you as a motive to quit. Good for him.

Well, it does mean he cares about you, maybe even a lot more than other people. i would say it depends on how bad the habit was also.

If it's something he changed to better his life or something he may have trouble functioning without for a while, there's a chance he may like you more than a friend. I mean obviously he would have went through a lot of trouble, and most people aren't good friends like they think. I hope my opinion helped.

It means he still does the "bad" habit, but just not around you because it's easier to lie to you than to constantly listen to your bickering. He doesn't see you as a long term option because you don't accept him for who he is, but he's having fun and enjoys having sex with you for the time being so manipulating your emotions is fine because you have no long term value.

People don't quit "bad" habits for other people. They wouldn't be habits if they really thought they were all that bad. They just hide their behavior in front of certain people if they are disingenuous by nature. People have to arrive at their own determination that a habit is something they want to break, for some particular personal reason.

I personally want to quit smoking for good. I dont smoke much, but I still lack any form of motivation. A partner who wants me to quit would be enough for me to do so. Also, I have friends who have quit, because their partner wanted them to. I think it is more common to quit, because you romantically like the person instead of if a friend wants you to quit.

I started dating a girl that hated smoking. I quit so I could be with her and ended up marrying her. Had 2 great kids and now she is an ex wife but at the time it was the right decision and not smoking since has been a very good thing.
