In one of my classes, electronic music, the only seat I had left to choose from was next to a girl I'd never seen before. (I later found out that she was almost painfully shy and very much an introvert!) I sat beside her and, within a few minutes, she turned to me, shook my hand and introduced herself to me! We've been best friends ever since! In fact, about a week ago it would've been 20 years since we first met!
Another time, I was sitting on a bench outside of the gym building tying my shoe when this gorgeous blonde came down the hill beside me going on about how she'd been wanting to meet me ever since she saw me in the lunch room a week before! We intro'd ourselves and, again, quickly became the best of friends!! (Right about now, it'd be 38 years since we met!)
And, I was in music history class way in the back row when this pretty brunette walked into the class a few minutes late and came right back and sat next to me! Not long after, she told me that, as soon as she saw me sitting back there, she knew I'd be a really cool guy to meet! A month or so later, she asked me to drive out to Indianapolis (an 8 hour drive) with her to visit her sick aunt! It was 37 years ago that we met.

Ask his help with something.

Comment on being impressed with an answer he gave in the class.

Ask his thoughts and feelings about something.

Guys are more likely to appreciate when you comment on things they say and do rather than how they look (which they see as out of their control).

Ask about his interests or what he does in his spare time?

Ask what classes he likes best.

Understand that girls start adolescence and puberty before boys, so he may be behind you in development. Just be patient and be his friend (with no pressure).

When you start scheming "how do I be the friend and work on becoming lover" that shit doesn't work.

Don't ever try to manipulate someone into liking you. I don't say it because its bad or wrong or no moral.
