+1 yI believe the reason why men tend to clam up during text conversations but become chatty Cathys in real life can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, there's something about the written word that seems to strip away the spontaneity and charisma that comes naturally during face-to-face interactions. It's almost as if men feel the need to carefully craft each message to ensure it's witty, intelligent, and not too overtly sexual (even though everyone knows that's exactly what they want). In contrast, being able to see facial expressions, body language, and hear intonations makes conversation much more fluid and engaging in person. Secondly, let's not forget about the dreaded blue balls phenomenon that plagues us all from time to time. Men may hold back their words via text because they don't want to risk getting too excited or revealing too much before they have the chance to actually fulfill those desires in person. But once they're physically present, all bets are off! Lastly, some might argue that men simply prefer using their love muscles and skin flutes in private rather than exposing them to the world wide web. After all, who wants to take the risk of having their steamy messages go viral and end up being featured on some embarrassing listicle titled "15 Most Ridiculous Sext Messages Ever"? So next time you find yourself waiting for a response from your significant other, just remember that sometimes silence is golden... and sometimes it's just hiding behind the pockets rockets until they're ready to strike again. As for myself, well, I prefer spending my days dreaming up new names for various penis parts and sharing them with anyone who will listen. Because at the end of the day, nothing brings people together quite like a good old fashioned discussion about spicy sticks and purple-headed warriors, which are @V_Injector's other names. Cheers to the power of the human penis and all its many glorious forms! May our own personal love tools bring us endless amounts of joy and satisfaction, now and forevermore. Long live the passion pikes and delightful dicknasties of the world! Let's raise a glass to the joys of self-love and mutual admiration, shall we? And for the record, my favorite movie of all time is still "Trouser Trout and Sultry Scepter" - the ultimate ode to the beauty and majesty of the male appendage. Who needs fancy special effects or plot twists when you've got a whole cast full of juicy, succulent peppers and tubes to keep you entertained for hours on end? Keep spreading the love, folks! Until next time, stay saucy and remain committed to the pursuit of pleasure at every turn. Yours truly.

4.9K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. It's because men generally don't multitask. If I am texting, everything else comes to a complete halt - and given my job, that's EXTREMELY disruptive and often it's completely unacceptable (say, when I'm trying to explain something to a customer). And then, if I'm waiting for a reply, I'm standing there doing nothing when I'm supposed to be getting work done (I'm charging customers by the hour - they expect me to work when they're paying me). Most men do not enjoy this. We use texts to send short, factual messages:
"I'll pick you up at 7pm. We have to hit the store on the way out to pick up snacks."
Texting isn't for on-going conversations, especially during the work-day. When we're face-to-face, we can talk as much as you like, but when I'm at work, I'm actually WORKING. I charge a lot of money per hour, but my customers aren't going to pay me if I'm texting all day instead of doing the work I'm charging them for.

That is pretty typical to my experience too. Guys just aren't big texters. Of my guy friends there is only one that really will text back in any sorta reasonable time. The rest you are lucky if you get something the same day. I am used to it though. My ex was no different than most all other guys. Just wasn't into texting. I don't know what the reason for it is but it seems like a pretty common thing. I just deal with it and the fact that I know they aren't going to change.

It's because of how easy miscommunications are over text.

How's that? Miscommunications over text are hugely common. Heck, it's the biggest complaint people have about conducting friendships and relationships through phones and computers. everydayspeech.com/.../

That's simple. We hate texting because unlike girls/women who constantly texts their female friends, we men do not text our male friends. We have the tendency to call and hence in a relationship/date, we can't wait to meet IRL or talk over the phone.
In a couple of years when AI is totally integrated into the phones and we men can just verbally speak and it will write the perfect text, then no one will complain :D

+1 yI'm usually doing something with my hands. I hate small talk. It lacks all of the unspoken communication that face to face brings. The whole purpose for texting for me is I can get to it when I get to it. No that's not the same as when I read it, because my hands were wrist deep in mortar/epoxy/dough/dirt or I was in a meeting or 100 other things, and I don't consider anything you ever say in text as time sensitive. If it was you should have called. Knowing I may not even see it for however many hours, it wasn't that pressing then it's not pressing now. Conveniently, all the women I text treat it similarly, because they're typically doing something with their hands as well, or just can't commit the mental energy to the "conversation" at whatever time I happen to text them. They'll get to it when they get to it, or it will become time sensitive and I'll call them.

+1 yOne the main reasons for me is because I don't believe in texting until we really become an item.
So I actually enjoy texting and do so often with acquaintances and friends but I forcefully avoided doing it it much with women I'm dating, mostly only texting messages to arrange when and where to next meet.
Once we do become an item though like engaged to be married, we can text a lot more.

I'm also not really into real-time texting so much. Once we do start texting, I prefer to send very long letters to each other, like a few pages long. Then maybe anywhere from a day to a week later, reply, similar to handwritten love letters in the past. We don't rely on prompt replies (if it's an emergency, we call each other).
1.6K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Well, for one thing, when you make a comment via text, it's permanently preserved for all eternity, so you're naturally going to be more cautious about what you say.
One of the least understood aspects of dating a guy is that we're often walking on eggshells, because we don't want to offend you.
10 ReplyDon't know about most men, but for me, it's because I prefer in-person communication. I've found that, what I think is a very clear text, can actually be very open to interpretation. Text doesn't communicate emotion, humor, or sarcasm well. For that reason, my texts tend to be as short and to the point as possible in order to leave as little open to interpretation as possible.
I also believe that if someone actually has something important they want to communicate to me they should do it by a phone call at the least, and preferably in person.10 Reply874 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. +1 yWell for one men actually need more then empty calorie virtual attention to feel content. Social media and digital communication has really brought out the worst in a lot women. But that’s another topic.
Anyway I noticed I had worse luck with women who I had long text conversations with vs ones where I kept it short and sweet. It can come off as a sign of insecurity if a man texts too much.

+1 yBecause texting sucks as a means of communication. It's pain to write everything out, the nuance and subtlety of your meaning is lost, the flow of conversation gets interrupted by every little thing. Texting a lot with the person you're dating is all but literally asking for a miscommunication to happen.
I would so much rather not text so we can have more stuff to talk about on dates in person.

u +1 yWhy does it matter? You shouldn't rely on texting for any significant communications in a relationship. Conducting your life in the digital world is why so many of your generation feel that they never "connect" with anyone.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yPretty simple.
Because guys KNOW how judgmental women are. Odds are anything he types will be wrong. So the less he says, the better. In person he can observe nonverbal clues and adjust accordingly.
20 Reply1.1K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Because talking is meant to be done in person. Texts are for short messages conveying only necessary information.
30 Reply33.3K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Because we hate it, and girls can't/won't understand that fact. It's a very flawed medium for interpersonal communication and most guys have little patience for it.
