Why does my crush do this when he sees me?

When I pass my crush from my course, he will avoid eye contact whilst greeting me. He turns his head around to look at something else whilst talking so I can't see his face or looks behind him instead of looking at me and will avoid holding eye contact for more than a split second.

We get along well, help each other with coursework and have known each other almost a year, so I don't know why he would feel awkward. He is nice to me and not shy or awkward around people or bad at eye contact in general (he's confident and a social butterfly) so why would he do this?

Guys, if any of you do anything similar around girls why do you do this?

This one is difficult, because there is equal chance he's totally not interested and he's madly into you and can't figure you out or how to talk to you.

For your sake, I'd presume he's not into you and just relax around him and talk to him casually. That way, if he is crazy into you over time he will become comfy with you and likely feel more confident to express himself. If he isn't into you, then he will just not really bother to engage and all your conversations will be very short and he will often excuse himself.

Sorry for not being able to say definitively. I've had a crush on a girl and been unable to look at her because I worried I was being 'creepy' staring or that she might be annoyed by me looking at her.

Though I would say the highest probability for what you describe is he's not interested. It's like 60-70% chance of that, with a 30-40% chance he's just incredibly shy.

Yeah I thought it might be either of these. I would have thought even if he's not interested in that way he would just avert his gaze to the side rather than turning his head in completely the opposite direction as it isn't really a natural thing someone would do if they were just talking to a friend they know. But he's not showing any obvious signs that he's attracted to me either so I don't know
