Am I wrong for telling my boyfriend he's being too much by "punishing" me for a joke I made?

A couple weeks ago I made a post here about me making a joke when my boyfriend asked me if he looked like Batman or not in his body snaps (for those who didn't see the post, he asked me if he looked like Batman and I jokingly said don't push it haha). He got extremely offended and said that the truth indirectly came out of me aka I secretly think he's ugly, when I've told him that he looks good countless times before this and have always meant it. I think he still hasn't let it go and said that he has a "punishment" for me that is that he now has second thoughts about marrying me. I told him that he's being too much because I didn't mean any harm and I've apologized a thousand, if not a million times for it. He said that it's my punishment. I asked him if he wants to break up over it, he said that he doesn't. Did I do the wrong thing by telling him he's being too much?
