1 yThere are people who drink every day for years who aren't alcoholics. There are people who drink once a week who are.
It's not about how often you drink (although it's a factor). It's about whether you control the alcohol or it controls you. It's about how you handle drinking. Can you stop once you start? How do you act when you drink? Do you have full or partial blackouts? Did you drink more in the past? Does it negatively affect your life, or those around you? Are YOU concerned about your drinking?
2-3 times a month isn't much. I think it's very unlikely to be an alcoholic only drinking that often. Did someone tell you that you are an alcoholic? Did more than one person tell you that? Has anyone told you that you change when you drink?

could be the beginning of a problem. I started drinking at 15 on weekends and seen no issues cause I was just young and having fun. The first time I was 3 weeks sober after I started drinking wasn’t until I was 19, the only reason for that little sober streak was a deep depression to the point I couldn’t get out of bed. Even then I still wasn’t putting the necessary blame on my alcohol problem (that I was still denying) for my decline in life. It wasn’t until I was 8 weeks sober that I realized just how much my problems in life involved alcohol in one way or another. I was 9 months sober before I started drinking again in march 2023 and learned the hard way why alcoholics have to cut off drinking completely. I am only now just over a month sober. Drinking 2-3 times a week isn’t a problem but it is a slippery slope and can get dark quick while you're oblivious to it. I sure as hell was.

whoever said that sounds like so much fun lmao. 2-3 times a month at 24 isn't concerning at all.
you're only an alcoholic if you regularely get shit faced and its not something your doing anymore just to have fun at parties or with your friends, but something you find yourself doing alone and because you 'need' it to be happy/have fun/function/etc

1 yBecause people might not know what a alcoholic is someone who drinks every day just to feel normal dependent on the alcohol to function and without it gets withdrawal symptoms that's quite extreme, also there are people addicted to binge drinking those who don't drink in the week and drink far more than an alcoholic would but all in one day and sometimes over the weekend but they drink excessively and damage themselves much more than a alcoholic does. I'm guessing your doing this type of drinking witch is alcoholism just the same even if you don't drink everyday and have no withdrawals..

Thanks. How you handle your drink has nothing to do with it you will just end up drinking more and doing more damage

1 yIf you drink alcohol only 2 times a month or 3 times a month and you know you can stop for a few months then get back to it, you aren’t an addict.

You are an alcoholic when you say you can stop at any time. I have heard the phrase a thousand times at AA meetings only 2 or 3 drinks a month..

This is when you aren’t lying to yourself. 😑

When I got arrested for drunk driving, I wanted to split hairs, "I'm not an alcoholic, I have a drinking problem". After a little time I came to the conclusion it didn't matter what I called it. If drinking causes a problem in your life you need to stop. To me, 2 to 3 times a month doesn't seem like much, but when I was arrested I was drinking 6 days a week. If your only problem is someone else is telling you you're an alcoholic, you need to decide how much you care about their opinion.

1 yBecause you are likely in denial about what's really happening. If you've been determined by professionals to be an alcoholic, it means nothing you say about the matter can be trusted. Alcoholics are in denial and refuse to believe reality because it's unbearable to admit the truth. You can beat it, though. Half the battle is accepting the diagnosis.

1 yTo be classed as dependent on Alcohol you need to drink at least a couple of glasses each day for the majority of the days of the week, weeks and weeks in a row... which will ensure that you can no longer function properly without having alcohol first.

1 yIt definitely doesn't. Being an alcoholic is pretty much drinking every day to every other day. It also depends on how much you drink each day. I wouldn't consider someone who drinks a single glass of wine or a beer a day to be an alcoholic. I'd say it's when you get drunk every day
00 Reply 1.1K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. It doesn't. Social drinking 2-3 times a month is fine.
Being an alcoholic means that you crave alcohol. When it's available you can't stop drinking. You get plastered. It starts effecting your life, your job, your relationships. You do crazy shit like driving drunk or doing dangerous sexual shit.00 Reply- 1.7K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic.
1 yI guess it would depend on the volume of alcohol you consume and how you behave when you've been drinking.
I've known people who get absolutely sloshed who I would consider functioning alcoholics, even though they don't drink super often.
00 Reply 1.7K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. 2 to 3 drinks a month? That's not at all an alcoholic. 3+ drinks daily... that's an alcoholic. Is there some new-age definition shift for this term too? Are we all alcoholic caffine addicts? Uuuugh.

1 ydays? 2-3 days? monthly.. uh, i wouldn't think it would
However, it of course depends on what you're drinking too.
Keep in mind who's saying that to you too. A person who NEVER drinks, never had a drink in their life, might say that 2-3 a day, looks bad00 Reply1K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. It is not the amount you drink or in how much time you drink them. It is more about your actions when drinking. Such as do you drink and drive and if so have you gotten tickets for it? Lost your license because of it? Got paid on Friday and broke on Monday because you drank all weekend long? Once you start drinking you don’t want to stop? If you answer yes to some or most or all of those questions then you may be alcoholic….

Yeah but I don’t black out every time maybe just half of the time

Wonderful.
1 yIt doesn't unless you are blacking out. Alcohol is bad for you. I used to excessively drink and now I hate Alcohol and those under the influence of it. Very annoying people.

So you neee to ask yourself, can you go a month without alcohol?01 Reply 562 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. If people are calling you an alcoholic , then you are probably drinking more than you are admitting to

1 yNumbers do not make an alcoholic. An alcoholic has a need for alcohol, and cannot turn it down when given to them.
10 Reply It doesn't... unless your "2 to 3 monthly" is 2 to 3 gallons of alcohol monthly. If it is then yeah you got issues.
00 Reply1.3K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. You do stupid shit when you drink. You need to quit drinking because you can't handle your liquor. Whether or not you are an alcoholic is irrelevant.

1 yNo. But if you’re making the choices you make sober. That makes it worse
00 Reply 2 to 3 what per month? Shots? Which are 1.5 ozs. Which also equals 2 to 3 drinks as a drink equals one shot
Or 2 to 3 bottles? or 2 to 3 gallons?

From this post yet. It sounds like you drink for a few months then stop. Am I right?
1 yThat's absolutely not an alcoholic. There's also a basic definition online from the CDC and I'm certain that's not qualified for it
