My ex and i mutually broke up and he said he’d still occasionally text me to check on my daughter but my daughter isn’t biologically his and he’s only seen her in person once so why does he feel the need to see how she’s doing

Well, if it was a mutual breakup and amicable maybe he doesn't want to lose the connection he had with you and her. I am guessing it was amicable by the tone of your post. Working on that assumption and also that I am guessing you were together for a while considering you let him around your daughter, there was a connection that was built over time. I would think he is just trying to be nice and this is his way of checking in on the two of you. I don't think it is anything malicious or at least it doesn't seem like it. Without more details it is hard to know but it seems like he is trying to hold on and that is one way of keeping in touch with you. I can't think of any other reasons.
