A guy that has been pursuing me for over a month entertained another girl at my social event?

Long story short - this guy has been orbiting since a month or so trying to get my attention and to consistently spend time with me. I am very busy and we rarely have these moment of deep talk. But it happens. Yesterday, I had a social night I was throwing, he helped with groceries and cooking. He sat next to me, and we had lots of banter with the friends we have. We were very close and our knees were touching. And I saw this random girl from another house that came in and she was observing us the whole night. She finally got her moment when she inserted herself in our conversation. She started talking nonsense and as he kept replying, I kinda turned away and shifted entirely. While he went to wash the dishes, she stood next to him wiping. I left the room because tbh after the wonderful night, this wasn’t the cherry on the cake I was expecting. After that, I saw she lingered until the end. I came back to thank everyone else and he followed me to the opening of my room where I stopped him from entering. Said bye and that was it. I don't know to me it was just a major turn off. I don’t get it.

This isn’t that hard to figure out. You weren’t giving him the attention he was looking for but she did. Nothing hard to understand about that. You’re not that busy that you can’t give him some time if you really like him. Sounds like you just liked the idea of him liking you but weren’t really interested until someone else swooped on. I remember when I was stationed in the Middle East for a year. I got up pretty much every morning at 2 am just to talk to a girl back here in the states because that’s how much I liked her that I made time to talk to her.

She showed obvious interest in him.. Like almost in your face it seems.. He was just going for the girl that was showing him some love.. You put him on the back burner and probably showed less interest than you realized, and no matter how confident the pursuer, that would affect anybody after a while..

You haven’t done anything, it’s been a month of a vaguely mutual attraction where nothing is actually confirmed. She just did the same thin you did, you’re on the same level she is. If you don’t like that, level up, date the guy.

Based on what you've said, she seems more interested in him than you are and she's showing effort so it's natural for him to pursue the better option.
