When a guy says "sounds good", does he really mean it?

I’ve been texting with this guy I like, and a few times I suggested we hang out. Every time, he replies with “sounds good!” but that’s it. No actual plan, no follow-up, and definitely no hangout.

At first, I thought maybe he was just busy. But this has happened more than once now. So I’m confused does “sounds good” actually mean yes, or is it just a polite way of saying no thanks?

I’m starting to think “sounds good” just means “I’m not interested but too nice to say it directly.” Has anyone else been in this situation? What did “sounds good” end up meaning for you?

I say "sounds good" all the time. It always means sounds good. Never anything else. It is certainly not a polite way to tell someone you're not interested. (That would be a very dumb thing for anyone to try. It would be like saying "sure, I'd love to go on a date with you"... as a way of telling someone you weren't interested.. It just wouldn't ever happen)

It should be YOU who makes the plans (if you're the one suggestion you hang out. Which could be either person. In this case it's you).

So he doesn't follow it up... and neither do you.,

He was waiting for you to make the plans. You said: Let's hang out. He said, sure.

I would say it's now your turn to suggest some day time or activity. Right? The conversation went: you suggest hanging out. He says hanging out sounds good.

It's all you. You are the one who missed the cue here. Not him.

The second time... you ask if he wants to hang out... and he says sounds good.

Didn't... it... occur to you that since last time fizzled out... that you shouldn't just wait again for his response? (that was actually your move. Not his. Granted, he is equally guilty for not taking the initiative the second time... to realize... you weren't going to know it was your cue to get into specifics. He should have in light of that).

But common now... a third or fourth or however many times? I must be missing something about this (and I might very well be).

It sounds like this could be solved easily if you simply... specified some hangout idea/day... after he said "sounds good"...

There is nothing about this that suggests he isn't interested in you. AT ALL.

You are very willing to do the first part of "let's hang out", but when he says "ok"... he is waiting for you,. You should not be waiting for him in this social context (unless I am missing some key details about what's happening here. Again, I might be).

Men communicate clearly. If he says "sounds good" he means that he wants to hang out. Men don't communicate like woman do. If we say sounds good... Then we always mean that it sounds good.

He probably is just being shy and doesn't have the confidence to pull through!

My advice for you... Schedule a date, time and place and ask if his schedule is free that day. Problem solved most likely 🤷🏼‍♂️

Plenty of guys are very very shy especially if they have not a lot of dating experience. Those guys can use some help to make it happen

I kind of agree more with what the guys are saying. It could be a polite brush off, but most of the time it indicates that he is in fact interested. I’m noticing though there are a lot of men out there who like us ladies to plan out the details. I think your best bet is to try a more direct approach. Instead of saying “let’s hang out sometime”, try “there’s a restaurant in town that I think you would really love. Let’s grab dinner there next. What day works best for you?” or something like that. If he’s interested, he’ll tell you his availability. If he’s not, he won’t. I know it sounds ballsy (and it is), but you’ll have your answer.

If it's first time then it's very much possible he is interested but if it's happening again and again but you are getting only response "sounds good" without any action for that then I don't think they are interested.

Something some idea may sound good once or twice only not again and again. After that it comes "feels good" with proper action for that.

I often say don't trust words but see their actions. Action speak more louder more clear.

So I don't think he is interested if he takes no action for that.

Yes, that usually means saying "no politely." I experienced the same thing; he was someone who always said "sounds good" and never planned anything. At first you get your hopes up but then you realize that if he was interested, he would make a move. Being polite is not the same as being interested, unfortunately.

“Sounds good” can definitely be a polite way of avoiding a direct “no,” but it’s also a way of saying, “Yeah, maybe,” without committing. If he’s not following up with plans, it might mean he’s not as invested as you are. Some guys just don’t want to hurt feelings, but it’s a clear sign he’s not putting in the effort.

Yes, I've experienced this too. "Sounds good" is usually an answer that sounds good but doesn't lead to action. In other words, it's like they're not interested but don't have the courage to say no. Someone who really wants to meet would make plans anyway, right? I'd say don't delay too long.

if you were the one to initiate hanging out, he might be operating on the assumption that you're going to follow that up with a concrete plan as you were the one suggesting it. until you make something concrete or ask him to make it concrete, he may be mentally treating it as an abstract hypothetical, i. e. "it would be nice if we hung out." even if you've done it repeatedly, it may not have sunk in yet

if you ask a guy to hang out and he doesn't make a concrete plan, try proposing one or asking him to propose one, and adjust to the situation accordingly

This may sound astounding to you, but. . . we're not all alike. Some guys, that's just words coming out of their mouth, blowin' you off. Other guys, they mean what they say.

You know the guy and we don't. So all we can do is guess, and that probably wouldn't be very helpful.

I would interpret "sounds good" to mean that he likes the idea of hanging out with you and would do it if the opportunity presented itself, but that he doesn't feel strongly enough about it to go out of his way to make something happen.

It's like commenting on someones instagram picture, who you've never met in your life, but follow anyway because they're a public profile. So you say "sounds good". They likely don't care, but, at least they'll have something to read, late, right?

When I say sounds good it means a maybe yes. If everything works out and nothing comes up then it's a yes. It could be he is blowing you off or waiting for you to give the fine details as to when, we're and how.
