As we got to know him, we found out he’s a bit younger than me and from a specific ethnicity—which happens to be the same as my friend/coworker. Since they were closer in age and shared that cultural background, I figured they were a better match. So I took the L and moved on, no hard feelings.
She’s very into him, and since we’re friends, I decided to avoid him altogether to prevent any drama. I even act like he doesn’t exist sometimes, just out of respect, especially since she knows I originally found him attractive.
But despite all that, he started flirting with me. He compliments me all the time—about my clothes, hair, perfume. He also gets a little touchy and tends to linger around me a lot. Every time he says something nice, the guys in the office even joke and say “W rizz” and he always laughs it off saying, “Oh no, I’m not flirting,” even though it’s very obvious—and the other guys notice it too. I just say “thank you” and keep it pushing.
Now it’s getting awkward. She’s seen him flirt with me a couple of times, and she’s been acting noticeably meaner and bratty toward me. I don’t get why, because I’ve never flirted back or encouraged anything. I’ve actually gone out of my way to avoid him. Any suggestions on how to handle this?
