I have an uncle in the family, he is so particular, he rarely comments on people’s appearances, avoids objectifying women, and doesn’t pay much attention to clothes, even for himself or his kids. I provokingly asked him to comment on some actresses or models and he was always reluctant to do so.

Looks is everything you can know about someone without actually getting to know them. That's why people judge appearances and why people with neck tattoos have trouble finding gainful employment. While you can keep your thought about others to yourself, every person does it automatically.

Generally speaking I find visual information very usefull. Cause after all, the purpose of "mating" is producing offspring if you take the biological perspective. Looks give us a lot of information that we use as a heuristic to estimate the expected quality of the offspring. And would it not be quite dumb to look for a mate who'll likely generate terrible offspring with you?

Yes. They're generally the ones in stable long term relationships. My generation was one of the last generations to live in a world before the rise of the internet. I think it's an accident that relationships have fallen every generation since.

People don't have to go out in the world and learn how to communicate with people. They can stay at home and create and entire faux world around them on the internet. If it doesn't work out the way they want they can blow it up and start again with anentire new persona.
Also it's created a false perception of greener pastures. Throughout human history your avg. Person seldom went further than 50 miles distance from where they were born. This meant the person you married and procreated with odds are lived in that 50 miles. So that was pool of mates. Obviously technology changed that a bit. But now with the rise of the internet people think their pool is the entire planet. Regardless of how cultures and whatnot would be a serious wet blanket to that. The point is it has made people always think there is something better out there. And marketing has made people think they need to look for the perfect mate.
