Guys, Do you think a gal is being difficult just bc she doesn't "register" that you're hitting on her? Was this guy really being so obvious?

At a reception. My young single friend (F33 never married) spots a guy at the bar (M~49?). She casually glances over & gives me the "he's cute" look. I gesture for her to claim the empty seat next to him. She goes all wide-eyed.

I look at the guy. "Hey, can my friend use that seat or are you waiting for someone?"

His brows pop up. "Sure, it's all yours." He starts to get up so we can both sit. I gesture for him to stay put. "I have to circulate."

~30min later, she leans over his phone for suggested burger spots. (Great, right? Wrong.) She collects her brother & friend, excitedly booking an uber.

I look at him. "You're not going? Those burgers sounded good."

He shrugs. "You still need to circulate?"

At a glance, everyone seemed engaged, so I take a seat. He orders a drink & asks if I want mine refreshed. "Thanks, but it's a strong pour. I'm good."

Immediately my bombshell friend approaches & flirts overtly.

He orders a bottle of the wine for her & over pours.

She makes a big deal of holding her glass in my face to toast with him, takes a sip & walks away, looking over her shoulder at him the rest of the night.

I laugh. Classic gold digger. Guys fall for it every time.

"What's so funny?"

"Nothing." I unconsciously rub my arms. The room is chilly. He offers me his jacket. I initially refuse, but I'm genuinely cold so finally I cave & accept. "She's really into you."

"Yeah? Well that's too bad." He puts the jacket on me, stares a bit.

I look at him. "Why? You don't like her?"

He shrugs. "I'm into you."

I laugh. "Yeah?"

"Yeah. I was pretty obvious too."

"How's that?"

"I stayed in my seat... waited. Offered a drink & my jacket. And we're here talking."

Suddenly self-conscious at how oblivious I am, I joke I'll keep his (warm tweed) jacket. We talk HOURS, nursing our drinks till closing. Perfect gent, gets me a cab. I smile & slide in, returning his jacket. "Thanks."

He puts on his coat, steals a quick kiss, & takes my number to text a GN. SO sweet.

i have been there. I dated a woman who was recently divorced. She was a few years older than me. She cooked me dinner one night and we were talking about a new bike she just bought and we sat on her living room floor and listened to records. She has a very interesting collection of records. She excuses herself and says she had to go to the bathroom. She comes back and takes me by the hand and leads me into her bedroom. I am so clueless I thought that she wanted me to check out her new bike because she kept it in there.

She had something else in mind.

We chat from time to time. He's sweet. Military guy, father of two, lives down south. Nice manners, but it's not smart to expect LDR.

His obligations? Honestly, I think he was a gentleman and I don't do one-nighters or one-off stuff.
