Guy offered to show me around when I visit his city - is he interested or just being nice?

I'm traveling somewhere for a solo trip. While planning, I was looking at social media for things to do in the area and accidentally liked a photo of someone who lives there.

He messaged me after I liked his photo, and when I mentioned I'd be visiting (after apologising for my butter fingers), he offered to show me around on the weekend. He says things like i'd love to and said he'd "definitely make time" for me when something came up for the first weekend i'd be there.

We haven't really talked much since, just a few messages here and there. He's slow to respond but when he does he seems genuine and friendly.

The weekend I'm visiting happens to be Valentine's Day weekend (not planned, just how the timing worked out).

I genuinely can't tell if

He's interested romantically
He's just being friendly/helpful to a visitor
He's bored and wants something to do that weekend

Would a guy offer to spend his entire Valentine's Day weekend showing a stranger around if he wasn't interested? Or is this just normal hospitality? Yes i am overthinking, because this is something that's never happened to me XD

I would assume it's hospitality to a new friend and maybe pride in his city. There's probably some hope in there for a romantic connection too. But that's probably not the primary motivation unless the guy is a really needy geek. Maybe he just has a lot of time on his hands and welcomes the opportunity to have someone to hang out with while helping you explore your vacation destination.

I have a friend who does stuff like that. He "adopted" an entire family from Switzerland and set them up with a vacation home and all sorts of ideas about things to do. And they got introduced to all of us locals to the point they were hanging out with us for 2 weeks. Super nice people.

It COULD be any one of those -- or "Option 4" he's a maniac who preys on innocent women traveling solo, so carry your pepper spray or safety whistle or whatever it is you carry with you for self defense.

Depends on the country and person whether it is normal hospitality.

It is normal for guys to want to get into girl's pants. So that will be the same.
