Guys, why do you act this way? Look for ways to talk to a girl but never just actually go up and talk to them? Come tell me!?

I am a student in university. I am considered the shy, innocent nerd in a typical high school setting. However, I do have a close group of friends and I have had pretty girls call me pretty etc. I don't look like the typical nerd though- don't have glasses or braces, dress nice, I shower daily. I'm short 5'0 to be exact and average weight. I have a Latina/Pacific Islander look- black straight hair, big brown eyes and tanned skin. But I do look very young.

I have had guys who make up excuses just to talk to me such as asking if I need help or asking me for help although there were tons of other people to ask. These are guys whom I never interacted with and are the type of guys who wouldn't normally offer or ask for help. A guy went as far as asking me for a glue stick while I was writing something and the others weren't doing anything and helping him find his name on the list. However, guys never just approach and try to make a proper conversation with me. I also don't get asked out a lot.

Why do you guys do this? Try and talk to girls but never actually go up and start a proper conversation?

You sound like an intelligent woman. As much as us macho men hate to admit it, you females have a lot more sway over us than we will readily admit.

You also describe yourself as someone I would consider very attractive.

Perhaps a guy will admire you from a distance, and approach you- only to sense the bristling intelligence you have (And the capacity to destroy us) and wimp out, never to talk to you, again.

In short: You are intimidating. Maybe not at first, because you are attractive. But an attractive female with brains, who also has a soft heart: It can be a little overwhelming to us guys.

Guys who are only interested in sex will likely cruise right past you: because you will take too much time and effort to get into bed.

But the sensitive guys, perhaps guys who have been hurt by women in the past, will see you as an almost mythical creature of doom and dread, dressed up in a pretty package.

My advice? Just keep being you. There is a guy out there who is going to fall in love with you, who is going to cherish your soft, sweet heart, your beautiful physique, and go ga-ga over your intellect. If he is willing to wait to have sex with you, to get to know you, (he may need some persuading, most worldly men do) he is a keeper, because it means you as a person mean more to him than just your body.

So... Be patient! The right guy will come along, and he will have the guts to talk to you. You are a very special woman, and there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with you. :)

The only conclusion is that he's a bit scared your considering going to a different university. He must of had his hopes up for you going to U of T with him and now he believes there's a chance his hopes may be let down. He's just trying to make the offer sound as bad as possible to try and sway you away from it, your obviously a great girl and he's already got high hopes! Good luck.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think you know the answer to this. You spent a lot of time describing your appearance just for the sake of it, and you describe your situation in a way that subtly makes you look good, without having to state it. Honestly, I think you just want to be told that you sound attractive and that guys like you. Maybe you are pretty, but guys could very well be put off by your attitude.

Or maybe he doesn't have a filter and says what he wants.
Should he have said congrats? Yes. Is it required? No.

I think it has a lot to do with lack of confidence, AND fear or rejection. Those fears go on in everyone's mind, however, a lot of people allow it to inhibit them.

I've received the same treatment from a guy that currently likes me, the only reason I can think of is that he doesn't really want you to move away because he can see himself in a relationship with you. I could be far off though.

Try ask him why he hasn't congratulated you yet? If it were the other way around im sure you would even though you wouldn't really want him to move away.
