I know that you probably are not very flexible. I am not flexible either and I do yoga all the time. It is helping me alot. Here are some simple yoga poses to help with lower back pain.
Two-knee twist
Sphinx
Pigeon
Thread the needle. Good pose to do if the pigeon hurts your knees.
Child's pose
Spinal twist
Eagle pose
Seated spinal twist. Personally this is my favorite pose.
I must get back into yoga - I am one of the most physically inflexible people in the world ( I had two deep tissue massages by different people and both asked was I ever in a car crash when they were working on my back which I hadn't). Anyway I digress yoga is not just for lithe 20 year olds who can tie themselves in double granny knots and still cook lunch. It is for all ages/expertise or flexibility. As take writer says you can do it at home or join a class (just one thing here pick a class that suits your level, you can move up with practice - If you reach too far and find it very tough, you might get disheartened ) Namaste Ginnyweasley97
This is EXTREMELY bad advice. People with a bad back would be strongly advised to not do any of these without a specialized doctor saying it's OK. A few are probably relatively safe if done carefully by easing into it a little at a time to find out how it affects you.
There is no such thing as an exercise that both works and is safe for everyone with a bad back. Too many people lump "bad back" into a single category as if it means just one thing. There are lots of things that can be wrong with a back, and there is no single exercise that works for all of them. It's rolling the dice to do these without a LOT of caution. If the dice rolls the wrong way, most of these can potentially be extremely harmful.
I'm not used to seeing the English names of the poses. I try to remember them by their sanskrit names. Either ways it's problematic as there can be multiple names for a pose even in one language. Then it gets more confusing when there are similar poses and they only distinguish between them with a number or letter. Anyways, it's good that you included pictures.
How do you know that these poses are good for a bad back? Are you a yoga teacher?
Ok, just checking. Those are some pretty good choices by the way. I think pigeon and thread the needle are more targeted at the hips but it's all connected and sometimes it helps to stretch nearby areas too.
I recommend putting the pride aside. I know bigger men than both of us that do yoga lol. I've tried it myself and it's very helpful, I just don't want to regularly shell out the money at this time
haha it is often yoga which gives me low back pains but yeah, when you take it easy and do poses like these then that helps. down dog is excellent too if you bend at the knees, roll the shoulders in, bend the elbows slightly and tuck the head in.
These poses actually work!! Especially my favorite, the Two Knee Twist!! 😄

I think doing some muscle building along with flexibility would help. Doing hyper extensions would really help someone if they want to prevent back pain.
