Beautiful MyTake. Very Emotional. And for you to be at the very front 👏 I remember the early days being very lonely, working in the hospital environment had a sense of uncertainty in away. Well done, glad you decide to post 💕
Hey sister-I'm also an RN who was a float nurse in Oregon. I feel your exhaustion. I personally took myself out of the profession for a time last October and am currently spending my life in my ancestral country, in Estonia. I don't think I'm going to nurse for at least a year-I became way too burned out. Finally, after a lot of cross-country skiing and family time, my poor brain is finally getting back to normal. Wish you well!
Thank you! I'm just waiting for my tipping point at this point. I'm glad you've done what's best for you! Hearing other nurses take the much needed breaks always makes me happy!
Thank you so much for the work you do, and your courage. I have a friend in NYC who is a nurse as well and I always look up to her. We need more people like yourself who are not afraid to voice their opinions and try to help others by telling your story and telling the people here reading this why it's so important to be vaccinated. There are so many opinionated people, who think they can outdo Dr. Fauci and the rest of the scientists. They do not know what they say, sadly and it is costing more and more people to become sick or worse. Thanks again!!
Honey first of all, thank you for posting this. I know it can't be easy for you. And I'm sorry you're going through so much, including the end of life care.
Secondly, if you ever need to talk or vent, I'm here. No judgments.
Thanks for sharing your experience on this topic, and for your valuable service.
What an irony that I got Covid from an unvaccinated ICU nurse. As you can see there's people for everything.
I think it's important that one speaks out, even if it is punctual. Otherwise the ones informing are always the stupid ones.
An about the intensity of your job, just take it easy. Know that you have your limitations, and that's okay. Just do as good as you healthily can, because that's what can really be done.
I thought the vaccines were to keep you from getting Covid? Yet I see vaccinated people still getting it and some even dying. I've only known 3 people to get Covid, including my sister, and all were tested for it. One was in his late 60's. All recovered and not one has suffered any issues from having it. I have no idea who all these people are that are dying. Do you have any statistics for ages? Are these mostly older people or do they include much younger people, including any children? Also, how come I have heard nothing mentioned last year of people who have just died from the flu that arrives every year? People say that when someone dies of your regular flu that they are marked down as dying from Covid.
Sorry for not replying sooner! I personally did not expect a response this large to this post, so a lot of comments have unfortunately gotten lost in too many notifications.
Personally, I know 7 peole who have gotten COVID. None of them were ever admitted to the hospital.
As for statistics, I'm pulling them off my state's website for deaths within my state as that is where my personal experience lies. The majority of deaths in my state are for people 60+ at 90% according to my state's website. This a can fully agree with.
As for overall hospitalizations, that is a different story. The distribution is more even. The majority are still over the age of 60 but 39% are below that age.
Personally, I have seen a slight uptick in younger patients admitted to my ICU. I'm not sure that the deaths have increased though. I don't have any verifiable evidence for this side from my own anecdotal evidence.
As of this morning, there are 6 pediatric COVID patients in my hospital and 55 adult. This is taken from my hospital's website.
As for COVID death classification, that is a whole thing by itself. I've heard of patients being classified as COVID related when it may not have been and I've heard of patients not being classified as COVID related deaths when they should be. This is something that I do find frustrating.
Thank you. I guess I should have been a little more patient. I know what it's like to get a ton of replies and the time it takes to answer them all. My bad. :( It would also be interesting to know what state you are in because statistics vary in every state and county. Like in California there are a lot more cases in LA County than Orange County, but then LA County is bigger with 10 million while Orange County has only 3 million. So it is no surprise that LA County, being more crowded, will have more cases.
So let's just say that my state's total population is equal to all of Orange county lol. We definitely have a smaller and less dense population.
My hospital is still a large hospital comparable to what you'd find in a large metro area though. So we do accept patients state wide and have taken patients in from other states when ICU beds are unavailable there.
All I can do is thank you and say I am sorry on behalf of my society. Because somehow, someway, we let the crazies politicize what you do. We let the crazies protest medical professionals, we let them block you from doing your job, we let them threaten your lives, all the while putting your own lives in danger trying to save people who could have benefited from policies that were focused on keeping people alive.
As we sit and watch the deterioration of American society, I can't help but wonder, is this the actual incident that pushed us over the edge? That we would become so insane that we would make medical diagnosis and scientific research into political issues. That from here on, there is no such thing as objective fact. There are only facts created for political arguments. A society that cannot debate the issues using rational thinking and logic cannot survive.
I applaud you. I can only imagine how much stress that is, even though I see it in my personal life. My partner is a registered nurse as well, but unlike you she has over a decade of experience to handle the stress. Sometimes she would come home and just go to bed instead of eating because of how tired she is. I am thankful that you wrote this myTake.
I’m a medical student. Vaccinations wouldn’t make you less tired. You are tired because of the government’s mandates. Forcing capable nurses, CNA’s, and Doctors who don’t want the vaccine put all the load on the healthcare workers who got vaccinated. It’s the same in the trucking industry and the same in many other industries. The government essentially cut off hands to prevent their hands from getting dirty. NO healthcare workers should have lost their jobs, vaccinated or not. They were essential workers. Covid vaccines should have remained a choice, and the economy should not have been shut down. You are suffering from poor government decisions. You are a new nurse, so you think you know everything about it. You don’t. I’ve been in the healthcare field a lot longer. I am vaccinated. Look at New York disaster and compare it to other states that didn’t shut down like Texas and Florida. That’s why everyone is fleeing California and Texas.
So according to your age, you're only two years older than me. I was also a CNA prior to becoming an RN. I've had experience in the healthcare field before the start of the pandemic.
I understand that you are a medical student and that makes you think you also know everything about it (not only do I have a family member currently in medical school, I have also worked with medical students during their rotations... to some, we are JUST nurses... and you seem to fall into that category).
When the majority of my patient load consists of unvaccinated individuals, that is where my blame is going to land. When the vaccination can prevent a person from developing severe symptoms and requiring long-term intensive care, yet they chose to forgo the vaccination, then they are the reason I'm tired.
I will continue to give my patients the best care that I am able to. And I am incredibly lucky to say that we have been able to maintain safe patient ratios. But I am able to recognize where a simple solution lies.
I will never force a vaccination upon someone. I will do my best to educate and recommend though.
My age on my profile is not correct. This is a throwaway account. I’ve been in healthcare for 10+ years. My wife is a nurse. My sister is an anesthesiologist board certified in pediatrics and adults. I do research with neurologists and work with epileptics as a side project to boost my credentials. Most of my friends are in medicine. I’m not boasting. I’ve done plenty of time studying immunology. I’ve lived through SARS and previous epidemics/pandemics. Covid 19 although potentially deadly is mostly driven by fear. It does not warrant shutting down schools, businesses, and economy. We knew this when it was just announced back in 2020 February. It was politically motivated and money driven. Vaccinating the immune compromised and elderly should have been the goal, not the impossible goal of 100% vaccination. That was never feasible, and it’s caused complete lack of trust and confidence in the government and scientific community. Mandates for masks and vaccinations should never have been on the table. The virus was not deadly enough to cause such chaos and political division. Most doctors keep their mouth shut to avoid trouble, but it’s clear this is all politics. Nobody wants to lose their job or certification so we just shut up and get the shot. Your hardships in hospitals with lack of staffing is self inflicted by the government and the hospitals themselves. It’s all greed.
Just as a side note, having more than one account here is against the site rules, and can lead to one of your accounts being frozen and removed.
While I don't have the 10+ years of experience that you do, my last two years of critical care has taught me that his virus is far from exaggerated. I fail to see how the government or hospitals are creating these patients that need the intensive care. I will not deny their greed though. My salary (or lack thereof) and the proposed bill to cap travel nurse's salaries is a clear sign of pure greed.
But that still does't put the patients in the beds. That is from the actual virus itself. The physicians I work with, both at the start of the pandemic and now, have never even mentioned a grumble about this being exaggerated.
I will not deny that political motivations exist. That is the unfortunate state of our world.
I will never claim that I know it all. But to hear you deny the extent and severity of this pandemic, and the actual virus itself, does make me question you and your decision making. Regardless of hospital and government greed, which is a massive issue in itself, the virus itself is capable of the damage it caused to the US healthcare system.
We know how deadly the virus is. We know that almost all deaths came with comorbidities. If it was so deadly, why would hospitals allow healthcare workers to be fired? It’s like during times of war, they start removing medics because of their religion. It’s nonsensical. We need all hands on deck regardless if they choose to get the vaccine or not.
If what you're saying about vaccinations are true then why do people get the pandemic after they've been vaccinated? And why is natural immunity treated like it's nothing. This whole thing has been handled terribly by the CDC and the government. I applaud you and the people who actually did the work. But a lot of it was over exaggerated. It was a pandemic of the old and sick. There was no reason shut down Society like they did. To choke our children with the masks and to act like a Thor attarian Nazis I know. We found out who's who. I fear the left it's the most authoritarian monstrous group I've ever seen in my life
The vaccination may not prevent you from getting the virus, but it will prevent you from developing severe enough symptoms to land you in an ICU. While natural immunity exists, the vaccination adds an extra layer of protection from the severe effects of the virus.
I am also here to tell you that this isn't just a pandemic of the old and sick. My patients have progressively been getting younger since the start of the pandemic. While it may not have collapsed society, the virus is sure on its way to collapsing hospital systems in the US.
Those are called nosocomial infections and they are true for some patients. The majority of my patients though, are patients that are admitted specifically for COVID. That is the main reason the are in the hospital.
@Rambling010 How do you know what she's dealing with patient wise? Are you in there with her. Wake up man. She's trying harder than she has to save people and tell you what's actually happening not what you think is.
People on the other hand tend to paint a picture according to their personal beliefs or what propaganda they've been exposed to. I'll take the numbers any day over someone's painted picture. I'm so sick of everyone acting like this is the Black Plague. It's pretty goddamn simple. If you're sick or you're over 75 you're in danger. If you're not you're not going to die. I got sick for a few days. It wasn't that bad. Wasn't that fun but now I have natural immunity. You can thank your Legacy Media your left wing narrative builders
Well I guess some people matter more than others in your opinion and I guess you see no responsibility to help out society and our Healthcare workers. Ok fine. Insensitive for sure but nothing anyone can do about.
On another note. Stop comparing the left with Nazis. You're a moron and it's so ridiculous to make that terribly incorrect comparison. Here's a few examples of authoritarianism. When a president tries to overturn an election and the will of the American voters to remain in power as a dictator and praise rioters chanting to hang his own VP with a promise to pardon their violent behavior.
Also, no child is choking. Not one kid in my family cares they're wearing them especially when spiderman is on the front lol. Not one of their friends either. If you mean sometimes annoying so what.
thank you for posting this. My wife does home health visits and has been really busy this past 2 years. It is true that the healthcare system has been burdened by the pandemic and it has been an open ended situation. Nobody knows when it will end. If you were here I would pin a medal on you.
I was just saying to my parents earlier can't believe we've gone through 2020 and 2021 now 2022 without catching covid , it's gone on so long now want it to end , I didn't want have jab as severely needle phobic but so glad I have had covid jabs and the booster :D least I can say I've done my bit and protecting my family :) good bless you kayla 💖
Thank you for an extremely well written and very touching article. It is unfortunate that wo many people choose to remain ignorant and follow their false leaders. We have a nation with some of the best tech and giving people. This threat would be so weakened if only people would listen to the truth from the people who study the science and those who work in the hellholes to save lives and make life better for all. But too many people just do not believe the ones who really know, like yourself. I thank you personally for all you do! And know that many, many others do also!
I really feel for hospital staff. I already did before, but then also watched a documentary on it. There's things you know, but don't really think about, like how you are around it all the time and how that affects you over time, not just in that moment. Let me say a big thank you for all you do and continue to do for us! :) Even if it feels hopeless sometimes.
Try having your country red listed because of a variant being more infectious or whatever, that happened to us back in 2020 or 2021 when the Delta Variant or something came out, damn. Every single country pretty much condemned South Africa when that one variant came out.
A lot of people panicked when this first came out, now a lot of people are either done with it like I am, or wish it would just do us all a favor and fuck off else where. If the new variant and having SA red listed for travel wasn't bad enough, there was the riots of the Jacob Zuma fiasco from last year.

I trained as a nurse so have a bit more of an understanding than the lay person. And I do really feel for you. I think now it’s really starting to hit a lot of people! But are you not seeing less illness from covid yet? Because we are here in the U. K. I’ve also recently contracted covid from my workplace but thankfully I’ve not become unwell Gromit besides symptoms of a mild cold with cough, but I am also fully vaccinated. Sending big hugs to you.
And as for the anti-vaxers etc, unfortunately for them evolution WILL play it’s part, but that’s their choice. But in saying that, I do feel for those who are still young and naive who’ve not grown enough yet to really understand enough to form their own real opinions after being bought up in a world of falsified brain washing.
You spoke the truth. It’s crazy in the medical field. I work in healthcare directly with the patients too. I cried because I was terrified to go to work. I quit my job because I just couldn’t do it anymore. People who don’t work in the field have no clue of what we go through I’m glad you put this out there.
I wouldve quit. Your health is just as important. I wouldn't keep risking myself and fearing for my life daily. Either you really love helping people or the money is extremely great. Either way, neither of those factors wouldve been enough for me to keep retuning
You chose a profession that has a high burn out rate.
It takes a special person to spend many hours a week in a hospital.
You need to decide for yourself if you want to continue doing it.
A friend of mine is in her first year of being a nurse. I noticed that her consumption of alcohol has increased and talked to her about it. The alcohol helps her relax after a stressful day. I told her that could become a problem.
Be careful. No job should make a person turn to addiction as a coping mechanism.
I’m sorry you’re going through this. But please understand where your frustration should lie. The pharmaceutical companies and the government they control have made no effort to create therapeutics to keep people from dying. Remdisivir is deadly, as are ventilators. The two main treatments.
They could have been pushing vitamin D, zinc, ivermectin, and hydroxychloriquine in spring 2020 and the deaths wouldn’t have been nearly as high.
They focused solely on these shots that have not stopped the spread of the disease.
@nachosaresexy tell me this, what can we do to save them? I’m noticing a public opinion shift in Canada where what seemed like a rebellious 10% is turning out to be more like 30-40% and the ones in between the scientism devotees and us will just go along with whatever the dominant group is.

Beautiful MyTake. Very Emotional. And for you to be at the very front 👏
I remember the early days being very lonely, working in the hospital environment had a sense of uncertainty in away.
Well done, glad you decide to post 💕
Thank you!! I'm glad I did too!
Hey sister-I'm also an RN who was a float nurse in Oregon. I feel your exhaustion.
Unfortunately no. We had a surge over the last few months. It has decreased slightly since the beginning of this month though. Hoping it continues.
It will get better, you can count on that. I have it and I’m fine and it’ll be the same for more and more people soon enough.
#Nurses Rock 💪💪
ROFL. Uneducated. Vaccines don't stop disease, you high school dropout, they prevent serious complications.
@BlackBeauty90 are you a moron? Have you gotten any of the diseases you’ve gotten vaccinated against?
@BlackBeauty90 Did fauci and the rest of his crew claim that the vaccines prevent the spread by > 90% when they came out spring of 2021?
@BlackBeauty90 remind me what eradicated smallpox?
@Shamalien not worth the effort. indoctrination/ideology has power beyond any words you might offer.
^ meant the comment above against you, rather than for you, but yeah, either way it won't matter.
@nachosaresexy tell me this, what can we do to save them? I’m noticing a public opinion shift in Canada where what seemed like a rebellious 10% is turning out to be more like 30-40% and the ones in between the scientism devotees and us will just go along with whatever the dominant group is.
@BlackBeauty90 uh why don’t I have the chicken pox or the measles then
