IQ is only part of what makes a person great. EQ is actually a greater indicator of success.

IQ only indicates your raw mental power. But given that your update message of "OK since so many of you obviously are not that smart", I think you probably have a very low EQ. That means that even if you are as intelligent as you claim, you likely have horrible people skills and make interactions with others incredibly socially awkward.

Not to burst your bubble, but you'd be a great number cruncher like an accountant or engineer. But in the real world, high IQ people with low EQ are usually stuffed in a cubicle somewhere and don't make it successfully. High EQ people like CEOs and corporate executives tend to be successful because they're charismatic... and they get the high IQ people to do the grunt work.

Yeah, I actually have great social skills and am a pretty popular person. I'm nowhere near being an awkward person. I've been told numerous times I'm a leader not a follower. I do a lot of activities and get along with people as long as they aren't asses to me. I actually wish to help save the world instead of sitting in a cubicle. I was once being appointed as a Vice President & Director to head 4 group companies (I'd refused joining them 8 times earlier) & the induction process included an IQ test for which I was obviously in no mood - I scored around 40 odd I think lol and the chairman as well as the other directors where staring at me with dropped jaws with paper in hand while I was laughing my guts out lol

Errr... I've never done an IQ test before, but I'd probably score below average, since some of those questions frustrate me.

On the other hand, every other person I've met considers me above average in intelligence. I also enjoy pursuits some may consider intellectual in their emphasis. Dunno. Are there any GAGers who experience this as well?

was tested by a professional when i was in 6th grade, had a REALLY bad runny nose and no tissue. my mind was on keeping the snot in my nose. could barely concentrate on the test. i got something in the 130-140 range.

Something is terribly wrong if you know multiple people with IQ's of over 200. People are using improper SD then. An IQ of 200 places you...

100 - 50%

115 - 90%

130 - 99%

145 - 99.9%

160 - 99.99%

175 - 99.999%

190 - 99.9999%

200 - 99.99993%

That means that one out of every one million, three hundred thousand people has an IQ of 200. Someone is lying or they were not tested properly.

Not to mention that the modern WISC WAIS tests do not score effectively above 160.

What I mean is that in order for your IQ to be properly evaluated at such a high percentile you would need to vastly extend the sample size the WISC and WAIS were standardized on.

Often children are lied to about their results as well due to parents not really understanding the scores.

We are seeing a lot more children scoring numbers of 135 and up because the test has not been standardized in a long time. Also sometimes only half of your score will be told to you, either your Verbal or Spatial scores (they are usually compiled from about 7 tests each).

Anyone with an IQ of over 150 should be able to see that there is no way we actually have more people scoring in the 150 range than we do below the 100 range. This is something people don't seem to realize.

In a room, half of the people are actually below average as far as IQ goes. That means they have an IQ under 100.

About the only place I ever see two people with an IQ of over 200 meeting in the same room is at NASA or CERN.

Furthermore, a lot of people site Mensa as the source of their IQ information, but Mensa has a number of problems. Their test for instance is based solely on pattern recognition (spatial and verbal), but leaves out a number of important raw intelligence skills.

So you might be in the 99% of people in terms of the Mensa test, but only in the 93% of people in terms of full intelligence.

I think most of us are quite kind when we classify people as intelligent. And calling them ridiculously smart you should be able to recognize (as a smart person) that if you yourself, are tied to two of the three hundred smartest people (out of a population of 330,000,000) in the United States, the numbers must be wrong. That just doesn't happen statically.

Look up a kid named Jacob Barnett. He has a photographic memory, was doing calculus (self-taught) at the age of 9, is taking college classes a the age of 12 (not like one or two, he's a full time college student), is writing papers and everything, yet he is only scored in the 180 range. When people get to the 200 range, the difference is so shocking that you would not simply call them smart.

I never have! I never claimed to have. I've done a lot of research into the upper-planes of intelligence though, and spent time researching it with my psychology professor. At our campus of OSU (with a student body in the tens of thousands), there was not a single person who scored above 173. Which is to be expected. And the person who had an IQ of 173 was not even someone you would see as smart. He seemed like an ordinary guy. But his brain worked wonders on raw tests. His memory was flawless for instance.

A lot of the time we attribute intelligence to knowledge, but it's all about raw ability.

I forgot to mention the error that people often think their mental age/actual age times 100 is their IQ. That's outdated and doesn't really make sense anymore.

never think the IQ shows how smart you are. its only about speed and knowledge you already earned. A caveman can't have a 120iq but why can't he be smart? the IQ has nothing to do with being smart but having a fast process in your mind. It don't even have to be effective. my iq was rated 96, actually a part of the test is about language and I had problems with grammar in the past cause I was new to the language. My WISC test says "profoundly gifted" with an overall IQ of 160+
I haven't taken a credible extended IQ test yet to find out the exact overall number. My written expression was my lowest score with a rating of 99, everything else was high or much higher

You could have easily left out the information about having an IQ of 140, because it doesn't add relevant information to the question. Also you didn't mention what IQ test you're referring to. Diferent IQ tests have different metrics, i. e. 140 can mean something different in other IQ tests. Also a poll like this doesn't get you the results you're expecting, because you didn't mention needed information, you can't prove the validty of their answers, the data basis is too low to have any significance.

So, if you were really serious about this question, then it was pretty much futile to begin with. No, I'm not hating. Just want to point out some flaws in your approach, so you may improve next time. ;)

Um... IQ scores differ according to the test.
For example, a Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) of 140 is about equivalent to the California Mental Maturity Index (CMMI) of 122.
Therefore the question is meaningless... Sorry 'bout that.
Mensa (the low-brow of the high-IQ societies) uses the qualification criterion of being in the top 2% of the general population. This provides a common denominator for differing IQ scores.

Oddly enough, it only measures your mathematical intelligence without taking any other kind into account - and although I'm in an above average range, I've always struggled with maths. Guess it's not a reliable method of testing one's intelligence.

I took WAIS, no point posting my quotient here though since everyone is like "I got 150+ becuz i am geniusly intelligent 8)". Poll is biased since everyone is bullshitting. Going for an actual IQ test takes a while, and costs a fair bit. I highly doubt many people on here have taken a legitimate IQ test. An online IQ test is not accurate whatsoever. I had taken multiple IQ tests as a child. They take hours to complete. i was always right around 135.
