RNA and DNA, like in humans and every other animal, mutates during cell division. The chances of Ebola muating that significantly is miniscule. Being an RNA-based virus, its genome is more unstable than that of DNA-based genomes, the ability for Ebola to mutate in large and stable quantities is extremely unlikely and it has never mutated in any extremely significant way since it first proliferated tens of millions of years ago. The expressed possibility of the appearance an airborne strain of Ebola is purely a far-reaching hypothetical bordering on fantasy.

If it's unstable, doesn't that mean more chance of mutating? lol I don't know it just sounds like it would
- +1 y
No, it has a lower chance, not a higher chance

+1 yOh boy, I should go buy six months worth of provisions, ten flashlights, a rifle and spend the rest of my money on distractions from the fear and stress I feel at the thought of a lethal pandemic. Because I'm sure the media isn't blowing this up to help their business and everyone else's, I'm sure it must be an absolutely true end of the world situation like SRAS was, and bird flu and H1N1, and islam and North Korea and the Y2K bug, and a black president having been foreseen by Nostradamus as an omen for the apocalypse.

I'm not mocking you, so you can chill. I'm mocking the situation and how ridiculous it is. People panicked when the Mayan calendar was ending, it's always just sensationalist bullshit made to have people consume more media, and buy their way out of mental discomfort. It's a scheme, and it works every time.

LOL!!! Plague inc. comes to my mind whenever I see those news reports, "First Ebola case diagnosed in U. S" lol its just like Plague inc!!

I just hope we don't all die like in the game, haha.
I'm surprised they haven't made an Ebola expansion pack in the game - +1 y
Well you made a good point so yeah haha :)

+1 yI don't think the guy has enough points to upgrade to an airborne mutation. The idiot used them all on total organ failure.
That's funny if you get the reference. Actually, it's probably not funny even if you do.13 Reply- +1 y
Lol plague inc
- +1 y
Lmao when you buy total organ failure the disease starts killing more people than it infects and your disease dies off lol
- +1 y
xD glad somebody gets it.
It 'could' mutate to have the ability, but they did say it was unlikely, just not impossible. They are mentioning worst case scenario's to ensure everyone gets engaged now before it spreads to fast and far to control
10 Reply662 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Any virus has a chance to evolve and mutate as it goes from host to host. They're just preparing for worst case scenarios as a precautionary measure which is the right thing to do.

+1 yBased on more recent history, it's probsbly more likely for a virulent new form of influenza to do us all in. and even that isn't as likely as like dying from diet related illness or car crashes in America.

+1 yAny virus can mutate and become lethal. It has even happen with the common flue before. There is no sense in worrying about it.
10 Reply I don't think it will be that bad people exaggerate. Usually if you're healthy you'll have a chance to fight it off but not all Americans are so...
01 Reply- +1 y
Its not like the common cold. lol
This is much more serious than they are saying, otherwise when they find someone that has it they sanitize everything they touched. That should make people wonder on that alone and should tip the naysayers off as well.
i hope it mutates airborne and combines with rabies so it turns into a zombie apocalypse.
02 Reply- +1 y
But then we'd all die or live miserably
+1 yPlease, learn science
Unlike respiratory illnesses like measles or chickenpox, which can be transmitted by virus particles that remain suspended in the air after an infected person coughs or sneezes, Ebola is transmitted by direct contact with body fluids of a person who has symptoms of Ebola disease.02 Reply- +1 y
I'm fully aware of that... why did you tell me to learn science? Lol, douchebag.
- +1 y
Your whole question's entirety revolves around the idea of ebola being an airborne pathogen when it has no link to the respiratory system. If you are aware of this then why post this question, all it does is startle those who are unaware. Ignorance to breed chaos.
+1 yIts not gonna happen coz its that simple for humans to be exterminated.
02 Reply- +1 y
Not if the government acts fast while not many people have it. They can still stop it.
- +1 y
lol sorry *its not that simple.. dumb typo :P
+1 yAs with all things there is always a 'possibility' however, that doesn't mean it will happen.

+1 yIf it hasn't mutated to be transferred by air in Africa why would it just randomly do it now that it's in America?
03 Reply- +1 y
Because viruses are random Af
- +1 y
And it might already be airborne
- +1 y
Well yeah but people always make every virus disease thing overblown like they want the world to end. It's been in Africa for I have no idea how long and it hasn't been transferred through air. And now that it's been hear in a week they are scared that it will mutate to be airborne. I don't get their logic.

+1 yIt can't hurt you if you have a strong immune system
031 Reply- +1 y
Once diagnosed, you have a 50-90% chance of dyingz
- +1 y
Not all humans built to be the same.
- +1 y
That's why it varies from 50-90%
Sure, you'll have very FEW people who will be immune and stuff, but that's rare - +1 y
Yeah if people keep freaking out all the time and watch too much zombie or alien virus movies. So be it.
- +1 y
Wtf an healthy immune system doesn't mean that no virus can touch you lol. That also stands for cancer and other diseases.
Human beings are not perfect and untouchable, despite how healthy they are. Otherwise people who exercise and are fit on their 20s with an healthy diet and stuff wouldn't just die. But they do.
If that wasn't enough even mild stress and anxiety can screw up your immune system completely. Most people get cancer to develop simply because they were so stressed that their immune system missed that one naughty cell. Way over 1 million of the cells we create every day have the ability to multiply out of control. Only one of them has to get by.
Talking about ebola itself, clearly some people may have a mutation that provides them with the ability to survive. But most of us don't. Harsh true. If this virus gets airborne, then those who survive will make sure Ebola won't strive again. - +1 y
Not everyone die of cancer or what the stupid news says.
- +1 y
Yeah I agree with @MaxRocks
Your comment "it can't hurt you if you have a strong immune system" is kinda wrong lol - +1 y
If you embrace diseases... yes
- +1 y
What? Lol you sound like you don't know much about how the immune system works.
- +1 y
@abundantlyrich
Nobody is saying that everyone dies with cancer. We are just saying that the world is not that easy. It's not as simple as "I sleep 8 hours a day, I drink plenty of water, I don't smoke, I exercise, and I study. Therefore I will only day of old age".
Life is not like that.
The point I'm trying to get across is that you have to live with uncertainty. There are too many factors to count. Sure, having an healthy lifestyle helps. A lot. So does keeping your stress levels in check.
But you can't know for sure whether that plane above your house won't have a mechanical failure and crash down. Or whether you will get hit by a bus. I'm not trying to spread negativity here. I'm just saying that in my opinion the mindset of "Nothing can touch me cause I'm healthy" is unhealthy and false.
You should take every day of your life as a miracle, not as a right. - +1 y
I have freewill u know. I'm not an accident alive on this planet.
- +1 y
I am. I dont think suicide is cool.
- +1 y
Thanks for reminding me @maxrocks
- +1 y
@MaxRocks winning this debate so far...
- +1 y
Please refrain from using the word "suicide" in any context. It has a lot of meaning for me and for some other people that have either known someone who committed/tried to do it or have dealt with it themselves.
Besides it makes the conversation much more darker and now I'm not sure I want to talk anymore. - +1 y
@maxrocks ha , you started it, you made me sound like some pathethic human who have little choice in avoiding ebola and I'm not even from amerika. I can't make you feel any worse anyway. You act like we're all going to drop like dead flies any soon, regardless of our will to fight to leave or deciding to survive for that matter. I'm not pessimistic like you.
- +1 y
Asker there is no competition to win here. Just seeing diff. Viewpoints.
- +1 y
Wait, I thought cancer was autoimmune?
- +1 y
You can't "fight" ebola. Once you have it, you have no conscious control over how you react to it.
You can be positive all you want but what's gonna happen is gonna happen regardless of your optimistic attitude. - +1 y
Asker... Uh i live in a remote area, how on earth am i going to contract Ebola?
- +1 y
I'm only stating facts it's your choice to deny them. You don't get to disrespect anyone because of that. Even when I use the word "cancer" I always try to use it in an educational background, and never out of context, like you did.
@Mesonfielde: Cancer usually results in a spontaneous mutation of the DNA, either caused by external (like radiation) or internal (like stress) factors. Usually the body has several defense mechanisms against this. For example, there are several "checkpoints" in mitosis (the cell division), and if the cell doesn't prove good enough to pass those checkpoints, it destroys itself.
If the cell passes by that self-destruction, it starts dividing out of control. Then a special "guardian cell", [something]-13 (can't recall the name without going to books) is in charge for controling those cells. If that cell itself gets mutated, then the cancer is only curable via chemio (which destroys all cells). - +1 y
Depends on what you mean by remote.
If Ebola becomes airborne, then whoever packages your food and whoever ships it and whoever stocks it in isles and then whoever scans it when you purchase it have a good chance of infecting it with Ebola, thus when you eat it, boom. You've contracted Ebola. - +1 y
I'm not planning my funeral any soon.
- +1 y
I don't eat import foods.
- +1 y
Being positive is by far better than being negative, but being overpositive (like you are) is a much much worse position to be in.
When you are so positive that you start to deny cold facts instead of embracing them, you are en route for trouble. I'm usually not as serious as I am being in these comments, but the reason is that your mindset is considered, psychologically speaking, a disease for which you should seek some help. The reason is that when reality comes knocking on your door and you realize everything you denied is true, your whole world will crash down in seconds.
The sooner you realize everything is not as perfect as you think it is, the sooner you will start accepting the truth instead of denying it, and the more you will lessen the inevitable impact that will come with that realization. - +1 y
@maxrocks hon, I'm not turning into a zombie anytime. Hahaha. Ebola ain't gonna kill like the 1917 Spanish flu did. Only pockets of people will go. Disease will always prey on the weak minded regardless of anything else..
- +1 y
Wtf? Sorry to burst your bubble but diseases has nothing to do with will power, LOL.
- +1 y
Asker... WTF Disease has nothing to do slaughtering everyone. Someone's going to come out alive. At least.
I hope that happens :D I hate humans
