French kissing with mono?

So, I was french kissing my boyfriend today and afterwards he told me he just got over mononucleosis last month. How likely is it that I will get it? How bad is it? What does it do to you?

Also wondering, if I get mono how do I explain it to my parents since it's called the "kissing disease." I don't really want to tell them that I've been kissing my boyfriend, let alone french kissing him.

i had it in college. after a month yr pretty safe; it goes dormant, but there's always a (very low) risk. it's just a fact of life, better to get it overwith imo, since you can only get it once. some people never show symptoms too. i got over it in 5 days or so, but some people have it for like 2 months. it's like having a really bad cold for an extended period of time, so it's definitely not fun, but there's not truly bad effect beyond that.

95% of adults have come in contact with it by age 40 and only 40% get it.

Anyone who has or had mono can easily give it to another person through kissing, drinking after each other any contact with the mouth. For me I had a really sore throat and was really tired, I couldn't eat and I just wanted to sleep. It's different for everyone I know people who felt this way for months while other people for a few weeks.
