Fat people who claim they literally can't lose any weight?

Question

So something my mother always said to me when I was complaining i couldn't lose weight and that "I've tried everything" she always said "well, there were no fat people in the concentration camps" it's something she was also told by her doctor when she was a teen, and kept it as her motto and also said it to me. 
I keep it as my motto to, because it's true... Ok fair enough these people were starved to death and things like this, so it's not the same as living a normal free life, but still, if it was true that it's just impossible for some people, there would of been some fat people in there to. They were all emaciated and terribly thin :(

So, basically I said this to somebody today because they were complaining that they can't lose weight no matter what they do and that they're probably just naturally fat and can't do anything about it, and she got very offended. 

Now, my grandma was in a concentration camp but luckily served her "sentence" and was released, and my grandfather was a prisoner of war but escaped, so i am not just trying to be an insensitive prick, I'm just saying the truth. 

If somebody said this to you, would you be very offended? Shall I be more careful with my words?

nah I wouldn't care. people who are fat can lose weight, its pure time and dedication, the ones that tried and gave up usually were never able to hold out for so long to begin with, or thought they held out enough but it really just wasn't enough.

if people believe they can never achieve the body they want, they're just fucking stupid. lemme add, lazy as fuck too. no sympathy for lazy fucks. its all about effort and continuously trying even if it seems hopeless, because.. what other better way is there to live? giving up is a shit quality and as far as we know you only have 1 life, why the fuck would you give up.

I wouldn't be offended. I know you were speaking the truth and I respect and appreciate that but some people can't handle the bluntness. You probably could but they couldn't. Majority of women would take it offensive regardless if they knew your background or not and also if you knew them or didn't. I suggest you should choose your words wisely. If worded better they would understand and not be offended.

Just some people are just to ignorant to get pass the concentration camp part of your saying. But no it doesn't offend me since your main point is none of them were fat so it is possible to lose weight.1 pound of fat=3,500 calories if I remember correctly. As long as your eating like between 1,200-1,500 and exercising regularly. Also depending on what your eating as well. You should lose weight.

It kinda feels like you might be encouraging eating disorders. Of course the people in the concentration camps were starving!!! They were dehydrated, starved AND sick. So to compare their situation to people who can't lose weight NORMALLY is pretty f*cked up!!! just go back and read what you wrote... I say if a person can't accept themselves the way they are then they need to actively work on changing it. If they are not interested in changing their lifestyle enough to accelerate change, they need not complain. I do, however, think you could have put it in a much more sensitive way.

there are probably slightly more sensitive ways of putting it.

Everyone can lose weight.

it is true that it's physically -much- harder for some people than for others. Some people if they run a 500 calorie deficit, their metabolism slows down by 80 calories or so. Other people if they run a 500 calorie deficit, they slow down by as much as 400 calories. The same thing works in reverse - some people if they overeat by 500, burn off 400 through extra heat/movement, some people only burn off a little

If there were any justice in the world, the people who speed up the most would also be the ones who slow down the most. But that's not how it works. People who gain fat easily tend to be the ones whose bodies try very hard not to lose fat, while those who gain fat the hardest tend to lose it easy.

So it really is hard for some people.

But not impossible.

Some people have issues where food is a source of happiness due to minor defects I'm the brain. So these type of people get fat easily because they simply can't stop eating or don't habe signals that tells their body their full

Now your mom is right in a way, take those people I explained above put them in a concentration camp, they don't have a choice, they simply can't eat as much

So yes clearly if you starve a human enough and make them work enough, no one would be fat.

But to what extent do we draw the line, concentration camps were like torture

Some overweight people have a chemical problem which makes them always feel hungry no matter how much they eat, so yeah they could just eat less but I would imagine that to be painful, feeling hungry all the time doesn't sound fun. Also it's best to encourage that because they may overdo and that can be just as dangerous.
Also rarely but this does happen they are genetically incapable of not being overweight because their genes tell their body to hang on to fat no matter what.

Maybe that's true, but I shouldn't say that to people. These fat people know very well that they can loose weight if they just ate less, but are not willing enough to stick to a diet. That frustrates them, so if you say something like that they get offended. Just keep the saying to yourself.

People who have "tried everything" have usually tried it for very brief amounts of time, and when they didn't immediately see the results they wanted, decided that it didn't work and gave up.

Because the fact of the matter is that yes, there are people who are predisposed, by genetics or disorder, to easily gain weight, but even in those rare cases, you can still lose it effectively if you make the right approach.

I don't know about concentration camps but if you want to lose weight it's a simple matter of energy input and output. Eat less, count your kilojoules/calories, a little bit of the right kind of exercise and you'll make progress. I used to be morbidly obese, literally. But I got down to normal weight, now I'm convinced anyone can lose weight if they just put a bit of effort in.

Very, very, very few fat people actually "can't" lose weight.

It's a simple equation... calories in and calories out, and metabolism.

Unless you have a rare and genuine medical problem, any person can lose weight. You need to burn more calories than you're consuming, and do your best to keep your metabolism steady and high. Things such as eating small meals periodically, drinking/eating low calorie things that boost your metabolism (such as green tea) and exercise can boost that.
