Is this an excuse or the truth?

Around last week, I've somehow confessed to a girl telling her that I like her although we didn't even met before but she saw my pic on friendster.. after confessing, she told me she had to focus on her Sports and studies as she is in a sports school. can anyone tell me whether is this just an excuse or the truth? because now I just feel like I shouldn't talk to her or whatever that makes up the sense and I would feel sad if I ever thought of her rejecting me.. (she younger than me 2years and we're both Singaporeans).

To tell you the truth "I have to focus on _____" sounds like a typical excuse to me. You don't have much to lose by asking her about it; if she does like you then she won't be afraid to answer. If she doesn't then like I said, you don't have anything to lose. Also, at the age of 14, she probably is freaked out about having a boyfriend or maybe she is questioning her sexual orientation.
