Now.. it had no filter and was home rolled... so.. we all know what it prolly was.
Question is, laws aside, does it have an affect? if so, what? and how much?
This is something I've done many years ago and don't look back on fondly. My experience has been that blazing can really distort your depth perception and somewhat distort your motor skills. Also, sometimes your actions and your thoughts don't quite match up. For instance, once I threw a knife across the room while I was cooking and meant to throw a wadded up paper towel. The same goes with perceptions, sometimes you will have a hard time making the right mental connections - like someone mentioned, waiting for the stop sign to turn green is a good example, though personally I haven't encountered that one.
The higher you are, the better it is just for you to stay put. Judging distances and speeds is not a good thing to do while high. Granted, what people consider "high" is subjective. It's like drinking... having a beer and cruising home is much different than slamming a case and speeding down the interstate.
I personally got where I couldn't even stand being a passenger when I was stoned because it made me claustrophobic being in a little metal box.
I've driven drunk high and cross faded before for miles. When drunk I know I'm driving worse. When cross faded I drive better than drunk but still poorly. When high I drive fine but it depends on how high I am. If I've just got a buzz it's a totally normal day. A little higher and I feel afraid while driving but for some reason still drive pretty good. I think my reaction time might be delayed though I've never had a reason to test it. If I get too high its a million times worse than drunk driving because I end up forgetting I'm driving and getting distracted by everything. I highly and I mean highly discourage anybody from driving drunk or high. You never really know how bad you are until it becomes necessary I've had way way way too many bad experiences doing this stuff and it's really really dumb and extremely dangerous. DO NOT GET BEHIND THE WHEEL WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ANYTHING. That also goes for having to use the restroom and being sleepy too. I've come too close to killing way to many people.
It probably was a hand rolled cigarette... People do some those... Anyway, When I use to smoke weed, it didn't affect my driving much. You might have a little slower reaction time if someone slammed on the breaks in front of you, but if you're focused (and you probably are if you're under the influence of an illegal drug while driving) then you'll probably do fine. :) Alcohol is far worse. I'd say it's not as dangerous to smoke a joint as it is to drive after 3 or 4 beers but I can do just fine on 3 or 4 beers as well.

I get prescribed weed, so get blazed pretty much every day, throughout the day. I can tell you in all honesty, that I probably drive better stoned than not stoned. It makes me really focused and attentive to situations around me. I just hit cruise control and go the speed limit. Put it this way, you're in WAY more danger from people texting and driving, I worry about those people at any hour of the day than I even do drunk drivers late at night. I'm not just saying this to justify anything either, if I was impaired I'd tell you, and furthermore I wouldn't risk my own life and the lives of others doing it.
I was a straight edge kid in early high school. I used to get rides home from the super-stoner classmate next door (ex: a closet full of plastic Arrowhead bottle percolated bongs, always toking before the ride). He was a -perfect- driver. Speed limit, stop signs, signaling, polite driver etiquette. He had it all down. Not to mention he would never get road rage.
That being said, I don't advocate driving stoned, especially if you don't know your limits (and especially if you live in a jurisdiction where that's is criminal anyway), but the anecdote is meant to illustrate an exception to the view that being high definitively impairs your driving ability.
I imagine he was probably -more- cognizant while he was high, but that might be because he was a stoner.
Not being sober will always have some effect on you operating machinery, but to what extent with marijuana? I've driven both drunk and stoned, when I drink (even if it's just a couple of beers), I'm more impatient and want to get to my destination sooner, plus I'm more likely to get involved in riskier situations so I speed more often than not. Pot, on the other hand, I'm terrified of the repercussions of getting caught and either A) Stay where i'm at until I'm sober or B) Drive to my destination going the speed limit the entire way and am constantly looking for cops. If you're panicky high because you took a few too many bong rips, maybe you shouldn't be driving, but if you can handle smoking a bowl, you'd know what I mean...
Doing it while driving is weird, tossing the roach like that is weird, smoking joints at all is kinda weird, it makes more sense to me to use a bong.
How much it affects him depends on how much green he is smoking. A full joint of 100% green will noticeably fuck you up. You get really lethargic and kind of weak physically, but I think it also makes you super careful, lol.
Just like being drunk, a little is ok. But it's better to toke up at home or wherever then see how hard it's going to hit you then once you're sure you're in decent shape then you can go for a drive.
Someone who smokes while driving and tosses the roach like that probably does it a lot and has built up a tolerance, it barely affects them. Imagine he just tossed a beer bottle out his window, that's probably what it equates too. Best avoid those people when driving.
Not all strains create the same high. Not all people are effected by the same strain the same way.
I've smoked and felt perfectly in control of my motor functions, I've smoked and felt like I was falling off the face of the earth and everything was very far away.
If you don't smoke often, getting behind a wheel is worse than driving drunk haha. But if you do smoke everyday, it's not exactly safe but I wouldn't say it affects you much. I used to smoke 4-5 grams everyday. Could totally still drive and do everything else like a normal person. Now I don't smoke. I had a few puffs of a joint on new years and didn't know what the hell was going on.
Absolutely... any drug will at least affect your ability to make decisions.
The most extreme cases I've seen on TV were people driving on metamphetamine... they're afraid of nothing, drive like a missile and use their car as a weapon against the police.
I found a nice video... look at his behavior after the crash :o :o
Comparing meth to pot is pretty extreme...
I think smaller amounts of weed don't have a large impact on driving *IF* the driver doesn't get too stoned and/or distracted. If they space out and let their mind wonder, their reactions will not be up to par. Part of that is experience. A more experienced toker will be able to keep their mind on the road better than someone who rarely smokes.
To put it another way. It might not be the best thing to drive stoned. But I'd rather be on the road with a toker than a texter.
I driven high several times. It makes u really paranoid if u are new to it. Ur motor skills might not be at their best either because of ur reflexs. U also get distracted easy. and if it's a indicated it could make u drowsy.
PLEASE STAY HOME AND SMOKE GUYS. IT IS NOT WORTH THE RISK!
Yes it can, but depends on how experienced you are and what the feeling is like at that moment. It can vary... Sometimes it gives you more focus and concentration and sometimes it just distracts you
But most of the times if you smoke weed often, it shouldn't be an issue.

With the amount of pedestrians who get ran over at cross walks and people who get rear ended by trucks causing death/injury, I do not understand why anyone would think its fair to smoke a little pot and drive a car.
You are gonna go... verrrrrryyyy slooooowwwwwlllllyyyyyyy
Pot aka Marijuana significantly impairs judgment, motor coordination, and reaction time, and studies have found a direct relationship between blood THC concentration and impaired driving ability.
It effects your perception of time substantially so if you are approaching a huge semi you might think you are waaay farther behind it than you really are and ram into it.
I am wayy op paranoid to drive high. To me it would be like driving drunk and no matter how high or drunk I get I always know not to get behind the wheel.
It IS illegal anyways so..
I'm going against the majority opinion here now, but I've smoked and driven many times, more than I can even count now. I've driven at night and during the day high, and both have been pretty easy for me. However, I caution you not to because it is still dangerous. I just find that my tolerance has risen and is much easier for me to drive high now.
A light buzz doesn't affect me but too much and I'm going 15 mph thinking I'm speeding
I've never had issues unless I was really really stoned.
Then it's hard to focus.
But that's all its ever been.
You wait for stop signs to turn green and every car behind you is a possible cop. But really that guy was most likely rolling his own cigs. My friend does it all the time
I can barely walk to the bathroom when I'm high. Operating a vehichle any faster than 1 mph would be a disaster.
yes, all drugs mess with your brain, even cough medicine, allergy medicine, etc... they're drugs, and nobody should drive right after taking anything, much less while driving. People who argue against this are without a doubt mentally stupid.
Blaze and ride a motorcycle all the time if I smoke more I become more cautious and am willing to Kane it off road but the paranoia is a distaction so if it was legal to do so there be no prob in my opinion but that would never happen because nobody is the same and also if you do some and drive make sure you have a fag after and some coca-cola as it will hide the residue in your cheeks for when they swab
Yes i imagine marijuana has some effect on ones driving
Of course it affects the ability to drive properly. No one should drive on anything but sadly it happens every day by selfish pricks. Innocent people have been killed by drug affected drivers
So go ahead then. Smoke your pot and not give a damn about anyone
People are actually aware while high as to being drunk. I've seen people swear up and down they're not drunk while throwing up running into walls, doors falling down and shit.
Plenty of effect, reaction time goes down, coordination is lowered as is your judgement.
It would for me. Weed makes me damn near incapacitated. I can hardly walk let alone drive. Which is why getting high was never my thing.
Starting October 1, you can't smoke inside a car, with people under 18 inside. You can with people over 18, but if there are children in the car, it's going to be illegal
That's a lot of friggin' smoke, and you ain't got no wipers on the inside.
It makes you more likely to get in an accident, but less likely to care...
It dilates your pupils for one thing, then it impairs your thinking and judgement skills
Excuse me? What does the fact that I've never even been kissed have to do with smoking pot impairs a persons judgement and reaction times similar to alcohol? Your argument is invalid and obsolete
It slows your reaction Time from 1/10 of a second to 3/10 of a second so you increase your stopping distance by at least 16 meters
It makes them not pay attention to the road
Oh, really, have you ever driven high? Probably not, It makes us pay even MORE attention than when we're sober because we're paranoid about the police. I constantly make sure I'm driving AT the speed limit, not even a little bit above or below and am on constant lookout for any dangers.
@powernate, No, just every weekend since I was 18 years old...
@powernate, Please don't comment about smoking and driving when you're clearly lying that you've ever done pot, spread your reefer madness elsewhere.
Makes me drive like a grandma.
Wow. How immature -_- thankfully no one died.
I would have to say it would.
With Me i just drive normal
I'm great at driving high
I'm sure it does.
