Do "fat shamers" actually care about a fat person's health?

Or are they just bullying the person? When you"fat shame" (and I use the term lightly), are you actually concerned about that person's wellbeing? Or does their existence offend you? Just curious..

When I was fat, I was bullied constantly, and I really just wanted to go die. I'm just curious if you are actually concerned for them, or if you are just doing it to be rude.

I had this more than fat girl who snapped at us for eating mcdonalds around her saying that the smell is ruining her will to diet. Thing is she just started to diet recently and until then she had no issue eating all kinds of crappy fast food junk without even caring to ask if it bothers us. Then when she started "dieting", everybody around was warned to stop eating junk food around her on a not very friendly tone.
So: i'm not laughing at fat people. They have an issue/problem, but the moment they just sit their ass and blame others for their situation and get to the point of restricting others from eating certain things around them instead of taking control of their fucking life and eating habits, then yes i will consider you a weak unworthy human beeing
Plus... i noticed that fat people think they have special rights or something.
In the underground this old woman about 80 or even more got on. She clearly looked around for a seat as the train started moving. She was right in front of these 3 fat girls that were sitting down. None stood up to let the poor old woman sit.
Walking behind fat lady. Eating some junk food of course. Threw the wrap on the ground though the bin was 2 meters away.
Was in a crowded bus in a hot summer day.
This guy was sweating a lot. It was more than just the heat that was making him sweat. Was embracing the bar trying to hold on while this fat lady sitting down right next to him was looking at him in disgust for some reason. Then suddenly the man loses conscience for a few moments and falls to the ground. I help him back to his feet. He grabs onto the bar again. When the guy passed out he almost fell on the fat lady, so she was making these sounds "oh, oh my..". I was thinking "Bitch shut the fuck up and get your ass off that seat. This man just passed out and needs to sit down". On the seat right behind her was this young woman, 23 or so, with a baby in her arms. She stood up to let the man sit down.
How am i supposed to feel sorry for these fat people. Sure they are just some examples and i will not generalize under any circumstances, but these fat individuals i gave you as an example don't exist to me and i will have no mercy for them at all... Some take being fat as an excuse of them being assholes and expect others around them to accept any kind of shitty behaviour. "Oh i'm fat... i can be rude and impolite"

It's when you lose a close family member to a heart attack while in their 50's that it makes you care a lot more about overweight people's health. It's what made me lose 30 lbs over the 6 months from August 2014. Not that I was very overweight. I just want to be where I should be. Now I'm very conscious about others. I wish all overweight people could get down to a healthy weight. Fad diets don't work long term. It takes a change in eating habits and an increase in exercising. Not easy, sometimes, but it's possible.

I have been on both ends of the spectrum. I have been obese and am now at a healthy weight. And I have received more hate from fat people about being fit than all the shit I got for being obese, and it was a lot of shit. Obesity is an epidemic in this country and come 2050, 2 out of 3 American will be obese. Not "fat" or "chunky" or overweight, but "obese". Obesity is the worst state for a woman to be pregnant in, and is more adverse for a pregnancy than a womans age. A 46 year old woman who is pregnant will have a healthier pregnancy than a 21 year old obese woman, who faces several health challenges such increased risk of stillbirth, eclampsia and pre-eclampsia, which will kill a woman, even if managed. Obesity brings over 60 immediate and long term health problems for people, including heart disease.

There is no excuse for being obese, it is very rare in America, especially now for people to claim that their thyroid makes them obese. People need to own up to their shitty eating habits and take control.

Again, I have received more negative comments about being at a healthy weight than I did being obese.

When you talk to one long enough they'll eventually get around to admiting that they don't care about a person's health at all. It has more to do with them not finding heavier people attractive or desirable so they think it's okay to shame other people.

At it's root, fat shamming is a classist issue. Poor people don't have time to cook. They don't have the money, time, or energy to shop for good food. They're also far, far more likely to live in food deserts. This country subsidizes wheat and corn not the meat and vegetables that fill people up and allow them to eat healthy.

There have also been multiple studies that prove accepting people and encouraging them is much more effective at helping people lose weight than constant shame and guilt.

If fat shamers *really* cared about people's health those are the issues they would talk about. They wouldn't rage endlessly about how "disgusting" and "lazy" fat people are. They would look at the issues and say "how can we help these people?"

What do you consider fat shaming because nowadays, saying you like thin women or informing someone they're unhealthily overweight in a polite way is fat shaming?

If someone outright insults you based on weight, calling you a whale or something, they don't care about your health, they're just being nasty.
If they say you're overweight in a concerning way, then they're concerned about you. It's not shaming if you're letting them know because some people genuinely don't realise how much weight they've gained until it's too late.

Society tells people it's fine to do so, so if anything it's semi normal. I care about peoples health, but I won't be disrespectful about it.

And by society tells people it's fines, I mean society puts up the always skinny people, then barely any (if any at all) larger people. Then if they do, it's for comedy sake in the commercial and not really any care.

Lets be honest here, they don't care a bit. If they did instead of just shaming bigger people they'd do something encouraging to help. Like be their work out buddy and make sure they get up and work out until the bigger peeps are willing and able to do it on their own.

Pretty sure that evidence shows that fat shaming actually doesn't help someone lose weight at all, but can make them gain weight through linking it to things like mental illness and poor self esteem. Someone who cares doesn't make the problem worse by being cruel. They think they care, but I don't thin that they actually do.

I believe a lot of people who ''fat shame'' want to believe they care , but they really don't. If you'd care, you'd sit down with that person and have a serious conversation , giving advice and so on.

I think most people just use health as an excuse. They don't want to seem like their being rude, so they just bring up health. I think they are just being mean about the persons appearance. People can be judgmental about a persons appearance. I have an ugly face, and people tell me all the time. I'd like to know their excuse behind that one.

No, I think majority don't really care about a person's health. It's easy to say mean things to someone, it's another to give helpful critiques. Shaming someone degrades them, makes them feel humiliated and brings them down. A caring person wouldn't do that.

I genuinely care about their health, being fat isn't healthy, I encourage people to lose fat and live a healthy life style. I can't be mean to people just because of their weight. They don't deserve that :)

I only care about people close to me. I'm not fat shaming anyone but I often think to myself that they are living an unhealthy lifestyle. I don't care however.

I don't fat shame, I think denial of treatment, "fat" tax, sanctions and legal intervention is the way to go to lower obesity.
