My mom says starting in January it will be $500 just to go to an emergency room before anything else.
So that's nice.. discourage people from going to the hospital for fear of unnecessary huge co-pays.
Well, since reading what many people have written about not being able to afford insurance for many years and now being able to afford it, and hearing others that had insurance but had to give it up but went through the affordable care act and got the same coverage for half the price (which made the difference between being able to have insurance and not being able), I have seen that it is making it affordable for so many, not driving up the price for them.
And the company I work for raised the amount we have to pay and cut the coverage, telling us it was because of Obamacare. But a coworker saw an internal memo and the extra money was going into the company profit, not into the medical coverage. The money grubbing companies are jacking up profits and blaming it on Obamacare.
Because, like so many other government charity programs what is important about it is the politics, that is to say the psychology, not the practical effects. Being for healthcare for everyone makes you a good person, voting for it makes you feel good about yourself. What happens after that would really have to be an in-your-face all out disaster before people will accept their good intentions have caused evil.
In other words it will have to get a lot worse before there will be any consensus to do something to fix it.

It was a decision for the haves to pay for the have nots. The cost discussion was never really relevant, it was a magicians move directed to give plausible deniability to its supporters. Everyone knew it was going to increase cost across the board because they didn't do anything that fundamentally addresses the market place.
Because for them, the endgame is forcing more and more people to be dependent upon the state, actual quality and price of care be damned.
Because it's not. If you go to an ER right now it'll run you about $2000
eh not under my mother's insurance it won't.
