Why is the sound of chewing SO DAMN ANNOYING?

Does anybody else get annoyed by the sound of chewing? when I am next to a person who is eating and making noises with their mouth, I always have the urge to punch them in the face. anybody else?

It's one of my biggest pet peeves, haha. Bad table manners in general really put me off, but loud chewing drives me nuts. I can handle some of it, I mean if someone is eating salad or something, obviously there's some crunching you have to hear. But I had a roommate in college who just made the loudest smacking noises while he chewed, and he's get all excitable in conversation and be yelling with his mouth full, it was pretty disgusting. He's actually one of my best buddies, and my boss, haha, but eating around him is a tough go.

It depends on my mood entirely. If I'm already a bit annoyed then I will give them dirty looks or walk away. If I'm in a good mood, I'm usually able to block it out.

it only bugs me when my family members do it :( it grates on my nerves SO MUCH. i don't know why... i have to blast my music lol
