Lol wtf? That's not what happened to Michael Jackson. Your skin was probably just dry and started flaking, that's normal. Just keep your skin well moisturized and everything will be fine. I don't have dry skin but there's time where my skin will flak as well. It's nothing to worry about, and the lighter part of your arm should go back to normal after a few days.
What is your skin tone? If your not naturally a dark tan then maybe it's dead skin from when you tried to tan?
If your natural skin color is dark to begin with and i that keeps up see a doctor.

Maybe soap causing it to peeling off. Sometimes my skin too, after washing laundry with my hands or when I wash my hand with a new soap.
