Can people die from e. coli?

I just left chipolte and on the news it's talking about sickness from chipolte in Maryland. When I got home my stomach started to hurt.

I typed it into google and got this: 'Some people, especially children under 5 and the elderly, can become very sick from E. coli O157:H7. The infection damages their red blood cells and their kidneys. This only happens to about 1 out of 50 people, but it is very serious. Without hospital care, they can die.'

It can, but you can get treated for it and be completely fine. Your stomach hurting may be just a reaction from hearing that news as well. Either way, keep an eye on how you're feeling. If the pain persists and/or you have more symptoms. go to the doctor's or hospital just in case.

I am a medical student, and you can get gastroenteritis if you dont treat it with antibiotics... you probably won't die from it since your body has good immune defenses that protects us, but I would go get treatment unless you want to deal with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diahrea etc.

but 90 percent of the time stomach pain does not equal an ecoli infection. You could have just eaten undercooked food so I wouldn't worry unless it persists for more than a few hours.

Yep. It's pretty scary. If you don't get treated it can lead to death
