I also have cut out most processed foods and now eat mostly veggies, nuts, meat and fruit.
I only have 10 lbs to lose but I'm terrified I'll do it wrong somehow...
Losing weight is about burning more calories than you eat. There's a default amount you need for base body function, which you might want to calculate. There are also websites like Livestrong where you can keep track of total calories and macros: protein, carbs, and fats. Eat healthy fats like nuts, soy, and fatty fish. Ah, as you are. Remember you can have as many veggies as you want. Be careful about fruit intake. Great vitamins and minerals, but a looot of sugar. Sugar is empty calories, stay far far far away from soda. Restrict red meat. They say you should only eat red meat in the amount of a deck of cards, per meal. Eggs, chicken, and fish are much better. Lean meats. But, remember to go easy on the fruits.
If you keep doing what you're doing, I'm sure you'll lose the weight. Losing weight is all about calorie intake versus calories burned. Exercise will help, but it might make you hungrier. Make sure you have a decent snack within one hour of a workout. You might consider having a meal at most 2 hours before a workout to give you energy for it. Eating afterwards gets a jump on healing. If you don't do that, your body will scream that it needs resources to repair muscle damage or replace lost resources. If you eat some carbs and protein--maybe a protein bar or something--within 20 mins to an hour, it let's your body know it doesn't have to scream--gives it the resources it needs before needing to make you hungrier.
Don't get frustrated if something goes wrong. It probably won't, but you never know. Just try to figure out what you did wrong and adjust accordingly. Good luck! I know you can make it.
Thank you this was really really helpful!! I feel a lot better as I am doing most of this already :)
I have a banana or 2 a day in smoothies but that's it on fruit. Is that okay?
I think that's fine, though I'm not a professional. Some people also recommend eating a piece of fruit 20 mins before a meal, to lessen hunger, so you eat less. That's another thing, it takes 20 minutes for your body to register it's gotten food, so eating slowly is a good thing, so you know exactly when you're full. Oh. They also say you should eat until you feel 80% full. But keeping track of calories might work better. The Livestrong "MyPlate" or something similar might help with that. Make it easier to keep track of sodium, sugar, protein, carbs and such. I like it because it shows a little pie chart with the percentages of carbs, fats, and proteins which makes it easier to keep track of body building macros. And np, np. Sounds like you've got this shit on lockdown. ^_^
Wow thanks! You're awesome!
I'm determined af lol!!
Good advice. Though I think is important noting that once you lose weight and your metabolism accelerates it stops being about calorie intake vs exercise. When I was finally skinny years ago (yay!) I stopped worrying on what I ate and kept being active. I've been eating more than ever but I'm still a skinny guy which is great. Once your metabolism is up and running and you adopt physical activity as an every day/every week thing you'll have much more freedom in what you eat (reward). @Asker I'd say to follow this advice strictly until you reach whatever goal you have. From there on, is a walk on the park. Good luck!
Eating well and exercising are two important steps towards a healthy life. You can't go wrong with those things. Some other important aspects of living healthy (and losing weight) are:
- Drink enough water (drink 2+ litres of water a day), cut out the soda and don't drink too much alcohol.
- Get enough sleep (8 hours a night is the minimum if you want to make most of the next day).
- Keep up with your healthy life choices. It's easier to keep up with your exercises if you join a group or class, or just start playing (and competing) in a sport. If you're really into yoga for example, joining a class will keep you motivated and inspired and give you a new group of friends with common interests. If you're into a more competitively-oriented spore - like fencing, in my case - the competitive element and one-to-one fighting will ensure I keep pushing myself and keep training hard.
Losing weight shouldn't be your main goal, more important is to have a vision in which you lead the most happy, healthy and succesful life. It's not about losing weight, It's about you feeling great with your body and achievements. You certainly did make a good start though. Good luck with everything!
I personaly eat allott and i no way do i leave out chockolate or whatever i want... i constantly eat something little... however... i drink a lot of fluids and i exersize daily
Its said that you need rest days etc.. būt i dissagree
For me i do regular exeraizing AS much AS i can daily and increaseevery exersize eg: +1 push up a day more
... hovever i never get myself out of breath i just do wht i can and eat after :D... also i walk AS much AS i can...
Your body just neds to get used to a regieme and after every exersize look in the Mirror and see how amaizing you are and that your changing your ditter and if noone sees it but you then dont worry... it takes Round 16 weeks for others to notice your sucsess
If you're eating healthy and working out, then yes that is the best thing for your body.
But, for some people the changes are slow. So don't get discouraged if you don't see changes right away. It will happen, just keep doing what you're doing.
Also, don't pay attention to what the scale says. If you are working out then you will gain muscle, which might cause the number on the scale to increase. As the muscle you gain replaces the fat (which weighs less) the scale will say you are gaining weight, but it's okay because you are losing fat and just gaining muscle. So don't worry about what the scale says. In a few months you'll see the changes in your body.

What I've found gets rid of stomach fat (at least for myself) more than anything is either doing a daily walk or light jog. 20 minutes of foot travel each morning and another 20 in the afternoon took off 3 pounds in a week. I didn't vary my diet or anything but I still burned the stomach fat. After a few weeks, I kind of leveled out at a steady weight, which I was happy with. My advice is to walk to your destination whenever you can. Definitely keep up your regular routine though. But either way you'll be fine :)
But it might help if you focus less on losing weight and focus more on becoming fit, that way it's less of a chore or burden. Also playing sports or doing club activities make it easier.
But self-control is key as long as your eating the right portions according to your diet and not starving yourself, you should be fine :)
I play tennis and don't starve myself
Well, it depends on what weight you're at and your target weight, of course. If you're 100lbs, and you want to hit 90, and you're 6'2", then you'll need a starvation diet. If you're 5'6" and currently weigh 160, then you'll probably have no problem at all!
Remember to not overdo it - give yourself a day or two a week when you don't do intense exercise, to give your body a chance to grow without any stress going on. But it sounds like you're doing quite well for a healthy body!
You'll do great, just be sure that you are ingesting the right amount of calories for the activities you do. You can't go on a 1000 calories diet and then workout for an hour, because that would only stuck your metabolism, not to mention it can be very unhealthy. Check with a nutritionist if you are not sure.
As long as you have your caloric deficit, drink enough water, eat 6 meals a day, HIIT at least 3 times a week and workout everyday, you are going to lose that 10 pounds within 2 mos. easily.
I would recommend focusing in on compound exercises for upper body. You will lose the most weight there
That depends. If these veggies, nuts, meat and fruit represent a caloric surplus you'll gain weight no matter how healthy they are. You're having a good diet, one that will really help your metabolism make you lose weight, but yu should also watch your portions. Otherwise you won't reach your objective.
Well you also need to cut out CocaCola and other crap.
You can lose more weight if you actually have weight to lose and aren't just obsessed with losing weight for the sake of losing weight, though.
The real weight burner assuming you're at least mildly overweight is just walking and running. So if you want to get even more significant results put that into the mix as well.
You're doing perfectly fine though. Sounds healthy. I likes you!
I play tennis :p so I think I'm okay on steady cardio
Thank you :3
You oughta eat just right when you say whole. No more no less. And when you reach your goal, don't quit working out.
Why would I stop working out :p haha
Thank you!
why are you terrified you won't lose 10lbs? i mean nothing's gonna happen to you if you don't. if not, just increase the workout and eat better. i mean it's not that big of a deal.
It's important to me
like, important how? like, will something bad happen if you don't lose 10lbs? do you have to lose 10lbs for a weigh-in (like a boxer) in 5 days?
My family has a history of heart disease and such things and I'm already at risk :(
if you're already at risk, you should be losing more than 10lbs, probably. also, what exercises are you doing?
also exercise is exercise. i mean some are better than others, but if you're active, you're active and is good for you (unless you overdo it). also i misread what you wrote and thought you said that you were terrified of not losing the weight. like you HAD to lose the 10lbs.
Well I have a family history. I'm 20.. I'm just going to get fatter if I don't change so I need to lose it now
yeah, what kind of exercises are you doing to begin with?
Strength, and HIIT
what do you do specifically? push ups? sit ups? dumbbells? benching? treadmill?\
like when i used to workout on the daily, i worked out 4 times a week. on tuesdays and fridays were leg days (never skip leg day). i started off with a 2:30 1/2 mile run. then i'd do squats. leg presses and leg straightening, stair jumps with each leg and both legs. lunges with dumbbells. deadlifting, etc.
this was all supplemented with the fact i played ultimate frisbee and rugby and intramurals in college. so i got agility work in too, like cone workouts, route running, catching and throwing and hitting (in rugby, of course)
but even before that, i used to run track too so i did workouts as with actual running like 100 sprints, agility. 400 workouts and hurdles.
so i told you a little of what i did, what kind of strength work or with hiit (which I don't know exactly consists of)?
Yes it's just about staying in the habit, feeding your body properly and exercising, then it will reward you!
Hopefully you are following the calorie count, bodyweight x 12 to lose weight
How do you properly count calories
usually vegetables and fruit are based on cups and meat on weight. For these just search your item and calculate it. Nuts usually are labelled.
some people just weigh everything on a scale that counts grams.
Thank you how do I find how many calories?/
Thank
Whole food is good, but it has nothing to do with weight loss. Your diet is more important than exercise, for losing weight. You need to limit your calories, but not too much.
You should also portion control because you can eat a lot of healthy and not lose weight if you dont control how much you have
Thank you. How do I do that?
Yes eating wholesome foods at an aggregate below your daily caloric maintenance level, combined with HIIT training will GUARANTEE body fat loss.
Even eating too much of even the healthiest food can still be bad. Eating the right amounts of the right food is key
You also have to keep macros and hydration in mind. Just because you're eating the "right foods" doesn't always mean it's right. moderation is key.
try chia seeds
I already eat those
That's enough
