Diet is the most critical component of weight loss. However when your body is metabolizing fat it is also metabolizing a bit of muscle. This doesn't mean you need to spend hours upon hours in the gym. In fact you can hit the gym 3 times a weak for only 30 minutes a session. Focus on upper body on Monday (shoulder presses, bicep curls, triceps etc), Lower body and back on Wednesday, and finally chest and upper body on Friday. Make sure you do high weight low rep reverse pyramid training. Doing this will ensure you stimulate your muscle fibers so that you will maintain or perhaps even increase muscle mass while you are losing body fat. Carb Cycling is another great way to ensure you are minimizing the loss of muscle mass you would otherwise incur.

... Don't ask us... Ask your damn surgeon and doctor.
" huge surgery"?
You think us bigots have an understanding of what that entails? Stretch? Walk? Those could be detrimental post-op.
What exercises are forbidden? I suppose weigths? In that case, you can still bike, walk or swim. Its cardio and will help burning calories.
just dont gain weight then when you're recovered you can tone up. eat well to heal but not more than you need.

Eat healthy and don't exercise too intensely. You'll still want to exercise a little, even if it's walking.
You would obviously have to do it mainly by changing your diet. I am sure you can do some stretches to stay in shape though... likely not any significant lifting etc.,
i suggest not thinking about exercise, a lot of rest so you will heal faster then you can go back to exercise...
Walk. Don't eat like a pig. Easy.
Gotta work hard to earn it
