He was born last night at 10 lb and 1 oz. He had a fever and rash last night. This morning hey have him in an onygen hood, a heart monitor hooked up becase he has a heart murmor, and has to eat through a oral syringe, he also has fluid around his lungs too. My sister has a fever also from strep.

Don't worry, everything will be alright. Just keep on praying (if you are religious) and just hope for the best.
Can I tell you a story?
There was a baby born at 28 weeks because her mother was in risk of miscarriage. A week before the baby was born, the doctor put her mother on very strict bedrest and told her the most heartbreaking news, "The next time you bleed heavily, you will lose the baby." The mother cried but tried to remain strong. Her husband was heartbroken and her child who waited ten years to FINALLY have a little sister was saddened by the news. The mother's sister decided to help and take care of the mother while she was on bedrest. The father had to go to work and take his daughter to school and back. On Friday morning, at about 2:00 am, the mother woke up with very, VERY sharp pains in her side. She woke her husband up and he offered to make her some tea. When he came back with the tea, the mother said, "Take me to the hospital, now!" so he lifted her up, carefully carried her down the stairs, woke her twin brother up (he decided to visit her) and told him what was going on so that he can inform his niece when she wakes up (she had school in a few hours) about the emergency and carried her into the car and raced her to the hospital. Luckily there was no traffic on the Boulevard because it was 2:00 am in the morning. The mother and the father were in frantic and was scared about what was going to happen next. The doctors and nurses did some tests and they said, "You're in labour, you are going to deliver this baby tonight!" At about 5:00 am on a Friday, the little girl was born. weighing in at only 2 pounds. Surprisingly, she was okay. She had to stay in the hospital in the NICU for a while because she was so small, and born under 30 weeks. Even though she was PINK when she was born, they still had to hook her up to an oxygen machine to help her breathe. Even though this was good news to the mother and father that their baby survived, the doctor had more bad news. Because of the baby being born at 28 weeks, she had increased risks of developmental delays, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. The mother started crying and worrying about the risks and her husband tried to calm her down the best he could.

Today, the girl is now 16 years of age, hit all of her developmental milestones at the same time as her peers, has no signs of developmental problems, has no problems learning in school and new skills, in fact she has developed musical ability and she is the one typing this right now :)
Trust me, there is hope in EVERYTHING. I really hope your nephew survives. Your nephew and your family will be in my prayers tonight. I hope everything goes well.

All tests came back good. He might have respitory problems for life but thats all

well, as a nurse, I can tell you that the only one who has even an idea of the right answer for your question, is the doc.

Sounds pretty serious though-you should talk to him/her and see if you can get any info.

So, there was this newborn who was born with pneumonia, in cardiopulmonary distress and spent their first two weeks being ferried between hospitals so they could get care. Now? They're a pretty "normal" kid, I mean they're kinda weird but pretty physically healthy.

That kid is me. I should have died but I didn't. I hope your nephew ends up like me.

Your sister also has a fever?
I'm no doctor, but the fluid in the lungs might be the reason why the baby is the oxygen hood.
A heart murmur isn't necessarily very serious, may even be there because of the fever...
I don't want to give false hopes, but even with 10 lbs (more than 4 kilos?) he sounds like a big and resistant baby and you should be concerned, of course, but optimistic.
Also please be there for your sister, she may need the moral support.

You just need to keep checking with his doctor (s). He might just be in the hospital longer than expected to clear everything up.
