Actual protein shakes will essentially turn to fat, but if these are pure protein shakes they don't have a ton of calories anyways. I think a big scoop of mine is 120-130 calories. If you're only drinking one or two a day that's not much. This is assuming you're drinking them in addition to your normal diet. If you use them as meal replacements you could actually lose weight.
Maybe you're thinking of gainer powder/shakes. They sell them with the protein powders since a lot of guys trying to put on muscle have trouble eating enough calories. These can easily make you fat.

Yes, they will turn to fat. They are made to be used with working out.
Regardless of what you eat, eating an overabundance of calories, whether it comes from healthy sources or not, WILL lead to weight/fat gain.
having muscles is actually great for metabolism. a lot of diet books out there (I've read quite a few, at least 10), say protein helps to keep you full, of course if you do not work your core muscles and do not do weight training, it will be very unlikely that you will gain muscle. there is nothing to fear about gaining a bit of muscle, if anything, it helps you before you get older.
yeah it will make you gain weight...Even if you're not working out...thats what they are for to build muscle...so if you don't work out then it will more then likely turn to fat!

Bu, depending on the type of shake, there may be tons of carbs which will turn to fat.
But you realize that if you want to gain weight without working out, it's gonna be fat.
